Go Inside the Season 4 Premiere of Resident Alien, Directed by Series Lead Alan Tudyk! (WATCH)

In its fourth season, which is now playing every Friday on both USA Network and SYFY, series lead Alan Tudyk takes the helm as director for the first two episodes. Guess what? He hits a home run!

Go behind the scenes of the Resident Alien Season 4 premiere

According to Chris Sheridan, creator, showrunner, and executive producer, it was simply amazing working with Alan as the director (check out the full video above for more details). Not only is he an incredibly gifted actor, but he brought a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and came up with numerous fantastic ideas. The episodes that resulted from this collaboration turned out wonderfully, leaving Sheridan genuinely thrilled about the final product.

Tudyk points out the challenge of performing and directing at the same time, as he did in Season 4, Episode 1 by portraying two distinct versions of Harry Vanderspeigle. He explains that self-direction can be tricky because we’re often our own harshest critics: “We tell ourselves not to do this or that, ‘Don’t eat another cupcake!’ But when acting, it’s difficult because you need to observe yourself.

Over the course of several years working together, Tudyk’s colleagues hardly need him to speak much during direction as they have become proficient in interpreting “his facial cues and their meanings,” according to Alice Wetterlund, who plays D’arcy Bloom.

The popular series is based on the same-titled comic book published by Dark Horse, written by Peter Hogan and illustrated by Steve Parkhouse. USA Insider has announced that the next installment of the Vanderspeigle story, titled “The Book of Changes“, is set to release in August, where Harry receives a visit from his home world. Interestingly, Season 4 will introduce Stephen Root, who previously worked with Alan Tudyk in Dodgeball, as Harry’s father in an upcoming episode.
