As a seasoned gamer with an eye for entertainment trends and a knack for predicting award-winning performances, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation as I witness the imminent unveiling of the 2025 Golden Globes nominations! The dynamic duo of Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut are set to grace our screens, revealing the contenders across an impressive 27 categories.
2025’s Golden Globe nominees are set to be officially announced during a live press conference taking place at the Beverly Hilton, happening bright and early on a coming Monday morning.
Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut will unveil the nominees for 27 different categories, beginning at 5:15 a.m. Pacific Time. The live announcement can be viewed on CBS News’ website, YouTube channel, or mobile app. Moreover, ten special categories will be disclosed first on CBS Mornings, starting at 5:30 a.m. Pacific Time.
Kaling, renowned for her contributions to hit shows such as The Mindy Project, Never Have I Ever, and The Office, is currently serving dual roles as a writer and executive producer on the Max series The Sex Lives of College Girls, which she co-created. In addition, she’s busy writing and producing another Netflix comedy series called Running Point, slated for release in 2025, with Kate Hudson starring in it.
In the upcoming medical drama series on CBS titled “Watson”, starring Chestnut as Dr. John Watson, takes center stage. This show is set within the universe of Sherlock Holmes and will air following the AFC Championship football game on January 26, 2025.
The Golden Globe Awards honor accomplishments spanning both films and television. They feature categories for cinematic and commercial success in movies, along with recognizing the top performance in the genre of stand-up comedy on TV. These specific categories were recently introduced and will make a comeback in this year’s event.
The award for best cinematic and financial success at the box office has eight nominees selected from movies that have earned a minimum of $150 million globally, with at least $100 million coming from domestic U.S. box office sales or substantial digital streaming views, as determined by reputable industry sources during the qualifying year. Movies released between Nov. 22 and the end of the year can still qualify based on projected earnings and/or verified streaming viewership data from these same sources. The Golden Globes voters will then choose the nominees and winners in this category, considering excellence among the films that satisfy both box office and streaming viewership requirements.
This year, the Golden Globes has teamed up with data firm Luminate, which is owned by Penske Media Eldridge – a collaboration between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge that also encompasses The Hollywood Reporter and the company that owns and produces the Golden Globes, Dick Clark Productions.
Luminate offers streaming audience statistics for every film entered in the categories of cinema success and box office accomplishments. These insights are generated using Luminate’s own Streaming Viewership tool.
The award recognizes comedians who delivered exceptional stand-up comedy performances lasting at least 30 minutes continuously, excluding roles in TV series, limited series, anthology series or TV movies, on a widely recognized broadcasting platform (personal social media accounts are not eligible).
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton on CBS and available to stream on Paramount+, starting at 5 p.m. Pacific Time/8 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, January 5th, 2025.
The upcoming 2025 Golden Globes broadcast is scheduled to be the second straight year that CBS will host the event, following a five-year agreement signed between the Golden Globes and the network.
Since then, this is the second time the Golden Globes have been held, as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was replaced following its acquisition by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge. Now, it’s Dick Clark Productions that owns and manages the Golden Globe Awards.
Rather than the Golden Globe Awards being chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), it’s a more diverse group of international journalists who decide the nominees and winners, hailing from various countries worldwide.
2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for me as a gamer, with Nikki Glaser hosting the Golden Globes again! Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner are back as showrunners, promising another unforgettable event. Previously, it was announced that Viola Davis will receive the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award, and Ted Danson will be honored with the Carol Burnett Award for his exceptional work on TV. Can’t wait to see these moments unfold!
