As a long-time admirer of Tyler, the Creator and his unique artistic vision, I eagerly await each new release from his GOLF le FLEUR* label. The latest collaboration with Converse, the Chuck 70 Darryl, is no exception. With its nod to Tyler’s love for Airedale Terriers and its retro, nostalgic vibe, it’s a perfect blend of style and sentiment that resonates deeply with me as a fellow dog lover.
Tyler, the Creator’s GOLF le FLEUR* brand and Converse have been working together on the Chuck Taylor All-Star or Chuck 70 shoes since 2018. Now, they are taking inspiration from Tyler’s affection for dogs, particularly Airedale Terriers, to create a fresh five-shoe collection.
For Tyler’s new twist on the Chuck, there are some intricate details: Thick laces, aged white midsoles, and a concealed image of Tyler in his bellhop suit on the soles. The Airedale Terrier, Darryl, who has been a significant part of le FLEUR*’s recent imagery, is featured in a vintage dual-tone graphic that subtly emerges from the outsoles onto the heels. The uppers are made of Converse’s classic canvas material in five fresh colors such as Dachshund (light brown), Lemon Meringue (butter yellow), Margarita (pistachio green), Milky Blue, and Orchid Petal (lavender). These pastel shades are both sophisticated and reminiscent of the past, evoking memories of a carefree summer day –– perfectly aligned with le FLEUR*’s ethos and Tyler’s artistic perspective. Despite this, the design choices make the shoes versatile enough to wear across all seasons.
In contrast to the vibrant and bold styles of the latest Converse x GOLF le FLEUR* releases, such as pixelated camouflage designs and translucent soles, the Chuck 70 Darryl leans more towards the preppy aspect of the brand’s aesthetic. Similar in style to the Converse x GOLF le FLEUR* GLF 2.0 model from 2022, it carries a vintage and straightforward appeal.
On September 26, you’ll find the initial release of the Converse x GOLF le FLEUR* Darryl Chuck 70 at both Converse and GOLF le FLEUR* online stores. In the build-up to the 2024 Camp Flog Gnaw music festival, an additional five colorways will be unveiled for sale in November.
