Good Times And Coming To America Star John Amos Dead At 84

As a lifelong admirer of John Amos’s captivating performances and unparalleled talent, I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. From his iconic roles on “The Tim Conway Comedy Hour,” “Sanford and Son,” “Good Times,” and countless other shows, he has left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions, myself included.

John Amos is one of those fantastic character actors who has been part of the pop-culture collective essentially for all of our lives. This dates back to his earliest appearance in 1970, when he first started appearing on The Tim Conway Comedy Hour, then traces through Sanford and Son, Good Times, and beyond. Sadly, it’s being reported that Amos died on August 21 in Los Angeles of natural causes. Amos was 84.

The actor’s death was confirmed by his son, Kelly Christopher Amos, who posted in a statement (via Deadline):

With deep sorrow, I’m compelled to inform you that my father has passed away. He was a man known for his compassionate heart, pure gold in spirit, and cherished by countless people across the globe. To many, he was not just an actor but their TV father. His life was filled with accomplishments, particularly in television and film. Acting was his passion, a career he pursued wholeheartedly until the end… most notably in Suits LA where he played himself, and our documentary, America’s Dad, which chronicles his journey as an actor. To me, he was more than just a father; he was my friend, my confidant, and my role model. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

More to come….
