Gossip Girl: Do Blair And Chuck End Up Together?

Over six seasons of the popular TV series “Gossip Girl” on The CW, characters Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass (portrayed by Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick) transition from an unconventional couple to the show’s main and most passionate love story. In contrast, in Cecily von Ziegesar’s original books, Blair and Chuck don’t have much interaction (as Chuck is a minor character in those novels), but series creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage skillfully utilized Meester and Westwick’s remarkable chemistry and decided to develop their relationship in the Season 1 episode “Victor/Victrola.” In this particular episode, they end up together in Chuck’s limo, despite the fact that Blair had only recently been dating Nate Archibald (played by Chace Crawford), Chuck’s best friend.

Their relationship unfolds as a turbulent rollercoaster ride, frequently disrupted by Chuck’s or Blair’s questionable actions, or even their individual misdeeds. Remarkably, they stand out as the longest-lasting pair on the series, despite the fact that Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) from another central couple, Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley), ends up marrying her online tormentor. However, it’s intriguing how the queen and the rogue of the show end up together, given their unpredictable nature.

In the series “Gossip Girl,” the relationship between Blair and Chuck proves to be complex and unpredictable. At the end of the show, despite their strong personalities creating turbulence, they ultimately end up together. The journey to this point involves some wild events.

Blair and Chuck have an on-again, off-again relationship throughout Gossip Girl

In the first season of “Gossip Girl,” following Blair’s secret affair with Chuck, she reconciles with Nate, causing Chuck obvious frustration. When Blair suspects she might be pregnant and isn’t sure if the baby could belong to either Chuck or Nate, both men discover her dilemma, leading to a dramatic escalation for all involved. Despite reuniting during the season finale, their relationship disintegrates again at the start of Season 2, with Blair dating a rather dull man who turns out to be a British noble hiding his identity.

In Season 2, Chuck expresses his love for Blair for the first time, but their relationship remains strong even when Blair goes off to college in Season 3 and Chuck, aged 18, kick-starts his business by purchasing a hotel named The Empire. However, their situation takes a dramatic turn for the worse when Chuck strikes a deal with his nefarious uncle Jack Bass (Desmond Harrington), who demands either a romantic liaison with Blair or control over the Empire. Essentially, Chuck agrees to hand over Blair to Jack to save his business. This arrangement is discovered by Blair, leading her to seduce Jack on her own accord as a means to help Chuck. Despite this, the couple still manages to break up due to these events. When they attempt to reconcile, it’s disclosed that Chuck had been unfaithful with Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) during their separation, which enrages Blair immensely and causes Chuck to flee temporarily, as he had been planning to propose to her before his infidelity was exposed.

Essentially, what keeps Chuck and Blair apart is their mutual drive for success, as they’re both highly ambitious individuals who don’t want personal relationships to hinder their pursuit of greatness. They decide to wait until they’ve reached professional milestones before committing to each other. However, things take an unexpected turn when Blair kisses Dan and subsequently becomes engaged to Prince Louis Grimaldi of Monaco (Hugo Becker). So, the question remains: How do these complicated lovers eventually reunite?

At the end of Gossip Girl, Blair and Chuck get married and settle down

In the fifth-to-last season of “Gossip Girl,” Blair confesses she’s still deeply in love with Chuck, despite her decision to marry Louis, who may or may not be the father of her unborn child. This revelation leaves Chuck devastated. Later, when a car accident occurs while they attempt to flee together, Blair thinks that a higher power will let Chuck survive if she stays with Louis – an act she follows through on. Tragically, Blair’s early pregnancy ends due to the accident itself. Though Blair briefly entertains a romantic connection with Dan, nothing comes of it. Ultimately, it becomes apparent that Blair and Chuck still share a profound love for each other, leading their relationship to be permanently healed in the show’s final season.

One issue arises with the character of Bartholomew Bass, portrayed by John Robert Burke as Chuck’s ruthless business father. In Season 3, we believe he perished in a car accident, but shockingly, it turns out he faked his death and survived. Throughout Seasons 4 and 5, Bart attempts to eliminate Chuck multiple times before targeting Blair. In a dramatic confrontation on a New York City rooftop, Bart meets his end by falling off, leaving both Chuck and Blair under suspicion for his (genuine) demise. At Jack’s recommendation, the two decide to wed hurriedly to protect themselves from incriminating each other. They admit that they genuinely wish to marry, but the legal aspect serves as an added benefit in this intricate situation. (This series, I must say, is quite bizarre yet delightfully entertaining.)

Towards the end of the final episode, we leap ahead five years into the future where Dan and Serena are getting married at their wedding venue – a townhouse that is actually Blair and Chuck’s. It turns out they’re still married, and have a son named Henry. If you want to witness Chuck and Blair’s love story unfold, you can stream “Gossip Girl” on Max now.
