Govinda’s wife Sunita says she went from mini skirts to sarees because he said ‘meri maa ko nahi jamega’; reveals actor used to ‘hate her’ for THIS

As a long-time admirer of Govinda and his captivating performances, I have always been intrigued by the man behind the screen. His story is one that resonates deeply with me, not just for his exceptional acting skills, but also for the insights into his personal life that have only recently come to light.

Govinda is a highly skilled actor whose work in the Hindi film industry will forever hold significance. He’s particularly admired for his hilarious comic delivery and effortless dance moves. During the 1980s, he signed as many as 75 films at the start of his career! Despite much being documented about his successful career, there are still many aspects of Govinda’s personal life that remain unfamiliar to us. Interestingly, it was recently revealed by his wife, Sunita Ahuja, that she switched from wearing mini skirts to sarees because Govinda felt his mother wouldn’t be at ease seeing her in the former attire.

In her recent chat on Time Out with Ankit podcast, Sunita Ahuja mentioned that she got married to Govinda at 18 and their daughter Tina was born shortly after. When asked about their first encounter, Sunita reminisced about wearing a saree during that initial meeting with his mother.

Sunita recalled transitioning from wearing miniskirts to sarees and the presence of her husband. She elaborated on how Govinda disliked her for donning short clothes, often displaying his disapproval whenever he saw her in those ensembles. The actor from Hero No.1 made it clear that it was not suitable for him, and Sunita agreed with this sentiment.

Sunita made it clear to him that he wasn’t bothered by his co-stars wearing revealing outfits, and in response, Govinda might have said something like, “My mother wouldn’t approve…I was saying I should wear a saree, but it wouldn’t matter. I really wanted to impress him somehow,” she shared.

In the same podcast, Sunita Ahuja shared that she never experienced feelings of insecurity about Govinda receiving attention from other women because he was a prominent star at the time. She explained that she has always been confident in her own abilities and further mentioned that there might have been instances happening, but she would be able to handle them since Govinda would return home every evening.

Sunita Ahuja is the wife of Govinda’s maternal aunt (his mother’s brother’s wife), and they got married on March 11, 1987.
