Kendrick Lamar won the award for song of the year at the 2025 Grammys for “Not Like Us.”
Lamar received the Record of the Year award from Diana Ross shortly following his victory, and in response, he paid tribute to the West Coast musicians who had influenced him during his career. He also emphasized the significant impact that rap music has had on the music industry as a whole.
In simpler terms, “By the close of each day, no force is greater than hip-hop music. As a community, we embody its essence,” Lamar expressed. “To those emerging artists, I merely ask that you hold the art form in high regard – it will guide you to your desired destination.
At the 2025 Grammy Awards, DJ Mustard, the producer behind “Not Like Us,” shared the stage with Lamar. Lamar had swept every category he was nominated in, a fact that prompted DJ Mustard to joke, “Someone grab the broom!” Lamar’s wins included song of the year, record of the year, best rap performance, best rap song, and best music video, all for his 2024 track.
Lamar was up for the ‘Song of the Year’ award against songs like “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by Billie Eilish, “Die With A Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, “Fortnight” by Taylor Swift and Post Malone, “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan, “Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter, and “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” by Beyoncé.
On Sunday evening, numerous contenders for Song of the Year also graced the stage with their performances. Among them were Eilish, Gaga, Mars, Roan, and Carpenter. Throughout the night, we also saw Charli XCX, Shakira, Benson Boone, Doechii, RAYE, and Teddy Swims take the stage.
