Grand Seiko Brings Mount Iwate’s Frozen Waterfall to the Dials of Two Hi-Beat Revival Watches

As a seasoned watch enthusiast with a penchant for winter landscapes and a soft spot for Japanese craftsmanship, these Grand Seiko Hi-Beat 1998 Revival timepieces have truly caught my eye. The “Icefall” patterned dials, inspired by the frozen waterfalls of Mount Iwate, evoke a sense of tranquility and rugged beauty that resonates with my love for the outdoors.

Delighting in the charm of winter, Grand Seiko has revealed a pair of Hi-Beat 1998 Revival watches, boasting “Icefall” patterned faces. The design of these timepieces is reminiscent of the frozen waterfalls at Mount Iwate, which lies close to the Grand Seiko Shizukuishi Watch Studio.

The two watches serve as contemporary interpretations of the initial Grand Seiko mechanical watch introduced in 1998. Each watch is fitted with a 55-hour power reserve, and they both utilize the in-house 9S85 movement.

Enclosed in the durable Ever-Brilliant Steel crafted by the Japanese watchmaker, model SBGH347 boasts a 37mm case and is accessorized with a steel band that matches. At the moment, you can buy this timepiece directly from the brand for $6,900 USD.

Simultaneously, the SBGH349 model boasts High-Intensity Titanium, a material that is 30% lighter than stainless steel and provides superior resistance to corrosion as well as being hypoallergenic. This timepiece measures 40mm in case diameter and comes equipped with a titanium bracelet and three-fold clasp for fastening. The watch is set to debut in January 2025, and it will be available for purchase at Grand Seiko for $7,400 USD.
