As a gamer with over three decades under my belt, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that “Back to the Future” has been a constant companion in my journey through time and space. Unlike the countless sequels, reboots, and adaptations that have come and gone, this trilogy remains a beacon of originality in a sea of sameness.
Reflecting on my cinematic journey, I must confess that among all the films I’ve created, “Back to the Future” is the one I hold closest to my heart. Yet, it might surprise you why this is so. In his afterword for the updated version of “Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History,” Robert Zemeckis shares this sentiment.
The director goes on to express: “What fills me with the most pride is that ‘Back to the Future’ is entirely unique. Unlike many other films, it wasn’t adapted from a book, play, comic book, or TV show. It didn’t originate from any pre-existing source and isn’t based on real events. Instead, it sprang entirely from Bob Gale and my collective creativity as a film. ‘Back to the Future’ is packed with innovative cinematic concepts and scenes specifically crafted to maximize the potential of the medium of movies. In essence, ‘Back to the Future’ offers a truly cinematic experience. This is why I have always been passionate about making films, and nothing brings me greater joy than knowing that audiences continue to enjoy it and draw inspiration from it.
There’s no better nudge than this to revisit the timeless time-traveling trilogy, if you ask me! Fortunately, you can find all parts of the thrilling journey of Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doctor Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) in the Peacock streaming platform.

In a similar vein to the time-traveling paradox at its core, “Back to the Future” is quite an enigma. From Marty’s vibrant orange puffer jacket to references about Ronald Reagan, to a time machine fashioned from a real DeLorean car, this film – approaching its 40th birthday next summer – might seem like a relic of the mid-1980s. However, despite this, Zemeckis and Gale’s original creation transcends that label, maintaining a sense of timelessness and thrill with each viewing. It’s so captivating that you can’t help but exclaim, “GREAT SCOTT!
