Live Nation Productions anticipates that Green Day enthusiasts will enjoy an unforgettable experience with a fresh, humorous film derived from the celebrated punk group.
On Monday, I was thrilled to learn that the production for Lee Kirk’s movie, “New Year’s Rev,” is underway in Oklahoma! This film is a fascinating take on Green Day’s actual experiences while touring in a van prior to their breakthrough success with the 1994 album, “Dookie.” This iconic record, which earned them a Grammy and has since been certified double-diamond, serves as the movie’s inspiration. I can hardly wait to see how this story unfolds on the big screen!
Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust will appear in an upcoming film that follows the story of three friends who believe they’ve been scheduled to perform alongside Green Day on New Year’s Eve in Los Angeles, unaware this is a misunderstanding. Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, and Keen Ruffalo are also part of the cast.
Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day expressed that ‘Nighttime journeys are the best,’ he said. “You’ll drive for hours without rest, then perform for a handful of fans in a friend-of-a-friend’s basement, located far off any familiar map. Yet, you’ll do it all over again tomorrow and the day after. This is because you’re sharing the experience with your bandmates who transform into your family, creating an extraordinary feeling that surpasses anything else. It’s electrifying. So let the music and fun-filled moments continue!
Ryan Kroft, Live Nation Productions head of film and TV, noted, “Under Green Day’s wise mentorship, New Years Rev narrates the tale of aspiring artists pursuing their dreams – sleepless nights, countless miles, and the exhilarating thrill of the stage driving their journey. This story is beautifully portrayed by a talented cast, making it an ode to the enchantment of live music.
For the production of New Year’s Revolution, it is Green Day’s members, Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool, who are involved, together with Tim Perell for Process and Stella Bulochnikov for Pat Solitano Productions. The executive producers are Kroft, Michael Rapino, and Jonathan Daniel.
