As a seasoned cinema enthusiast who has braved the apocalyptic wastelands of Mad Max and the dystopian futures of Blade Runner, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that the Greenland saga is set to continue with not one, but two sequels! The first film left us on the edge of our seats, gripping onto hope as the Garrity family fought for survival amidst an impending cosmic doom.

2020’s survival thriller ‘Greenland’ is set to have a post-apocalyptic sequel in the near future, and its producer Sébastien Raybaud has hinted that there are ongoing talks about a potential third film. In a recent interview with Deadline, Raybaud provided an update on the upcoming sequel, which is slated for release next year, and suggested that something significant might occur in Greenland that could complicate a ‘Greenland 3’. However, they are currently figuring out ways to expand the series.

In July, we completed production, and just recently I caught a glimpse of the initial edit – fantastic news! This milestone is a testament to the dedication and skill of the filmmakers. It’s a $90M movie, and it’s exactly the kind of high-quality, European-based production we hope to see more of in the future.

“We’re considering the potential consequences that might follow. Step two may pose some challenges, but I’m confident we can figure out a solution…

Initially published in December 2020, the series titled “Greenland” unfolds when researchers detect that pieces of a comet will strike Earth within a few days, potentially leading to human extinction. The only chance for survival lies in seeking refuge within a cluster of underground shelters located in Greenland. The narrative centers around the Garrity family as they battle for existence and strive to reach safety before the comet impacts our planet.

As a fervent admirer, I’d like to share some intriguing insights about the upcoming post-apocalyptic sequel from Director Ric Roman Waugh. Last year, during an enlightening interview with Collider, the visionary filmmaker divulged that this follow-up will be set several years after the conclusion of the first movie, where the resilient Garrity family has braved their way out of the protective bunker to navigate the changed world.

The plot will revolve around those who lived and their efforts to restore the Earth after it was entirely destroyed by fire. In essence, it provides a conclusion for the Garrity family’s journey. So, is it a sequel? Yes, in a way, but I see it more as the last installment of this story’s message.

And the fun of it is, the way that the extinction event happened during the dinosaur period and the continental divides changed, and where the tectonic plates went, we get to kind of F-up the world, so to speak, and create our own kind of utopia or dystopia, what we have now.”

In the movie “Greenland: Migration,” the filmmakers aim to portray an authentic post-apocalyptic scenario, delving into the psychological impact on humans after prolonged periods spent living underground, based on scientific findings.

“So we went by science and allowed a number of years to go by to where you realize that these people have been imprisoned underground. What does that do to the human psyche? How does that contribute to when you do go into a migration mode and you’re trying to find new places to survive and you have all of that trauma? A little boy that was eight years old, or seven years old, that’s now 13 or 14, what is his life as a teenager when he’s known nothing else but cement walls and underground? These are the things that we want to play with. So we feel like time underground, it’s factual of what happened, but also it helps us with story.”

Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming movie titled “Greenland: Journey“, slated for release in early 2025.
