Greg Berlanti is getting back into the writers room.
The prolific creator currently has three projects in the pipeline, each with a different streaming platform. One of these, titled Stillwater, is based on a horror comic and has received a series order from Amazon’s Prime Video. Meanwhile, Berlanti is also working on a high school mystery series for Hulu and a family drama for Max.
The busy producer has three shows in different stages of production, each for a separate streaming service. One of them, called Stillwater, is based on a horror comic and will air on Amazon’s Prime Video. Additionally, the creator is developing a high school mystery series for Hulu and a family drama for Max.
The three projects are all produced by Warner Bros. Television, a place where Berlanti has had a long-standing overall agreement and spends most of his professional life.
Mark Berlanti, who has been away from teleplay credits for several years, will be working on Stillwater and the Hulu project, Foster Dade. Although he has “developed by” or creator credits on numerous shows produced under his own company’s name, such as most of The CW’s Arrow-verse series, it has been a while since he last received a writing credit. This break in writing credits started during the early days of You, which is currently wrapping up its run on Netflix.
Berlanti and Carly Wray (notable for their work on “Watchmen” and “Mad Men”) are transforming Skybound’s comic “Stillwater” into a TV series. This series revolves around the character of ex-convict Daniel West, who receives an enigmatic letter promising insights into his past and a substantial inheritance in the quaint town of Stillwater. Upon arrival, he uncovers a peculiar community where nothing seems to age, no one appears to die, and escape is impossible.
Berlanti and Wray will serve as executive producers alongside Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Rick Jacobs, Glenn Geller, Chip Zdarsky from Skybound, Sarah Schechter (chair of Berlanti Productions), Leigh London Redman, Robbie Rogers, and Jonathan Gabay.
Hulu has acquired a spec script for a potential series titled “Foster Dade” from writers Berlanti and Bash Doran (known for their work on “Life After Life” and “The Looming Tower”). The show is based on the novel “Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos” by Nash Jenkins, and it explores the enigma surrounding a calamity at an elite school. The series promises to examine themes such as privilege, power, sexuality, masculinity in today’s digital era, anxiety, and pharmaceuticals. Berlanti, Doran, Schechter, Redman, Jenkins, Rogers, and Donald De Line are slated to serve as executive producers for the project.
The Max series, currently being shaped during its initial phases, is a family drama that Berlanti will collaborate on writing. The streaming platform plans to create the show using a structure similar to The Pitt, featuring 15 episodes per season and a consistent airing schedule.
As a devoted admirer, I’m excited to share that the creative genius Berlanti is currently involved in several captivating series. You can find him on The CW with “All American,” while NBC hosts “Found” and “Brilliant Minds.” The final season of the gripping “You” aired on Netflix on April 24. Additionally, he’s been busy executive producing a live-action “Scooby-Doo” series for Netflix, which secured a series order in March. His representation is by none other than CAA.
Deadline first reported the news.
