Gretchen Wilson Goes on ‘The Road’ With CBS Music Competition Show

CBS is adding to the crew that take to The Road in its forthcoming music competition show.

Grammy-winning artist Gretchen Wilson has signed up for the upcoming series, co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Blake Shelton. The show focuses on various aspiring musical acts embarking on a tour as opening acts for Keith Urban. Titled “The Road“, this series is expected to debut on CBS in the autumn season.

Wilson will serve as the “guide” for the shows, offering counsel and direction to the opening performances during their journey in the contest. Additionally, she’s going to showcase her own talent by performing on stage.

Assuming the position of ‘tour manager’ for The Road has given me the chance to apply all my years of touring experience to these up-and-coming artists,” Wilson stated. “I’ve enjoyed honing their skills to captivate audiences nationwide, and navigating them through the authentic struggles of road life has been a career highlight. Collaborating with Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan, and the rest of the team, as well as our fantastic crew, was simply incredible. I felt privileged to be part of this team, and I eagerly anticipate sharing this experience with the world.

In “The Road,” a band of musicians take the stage at various small and mid-sized concert venues, serving as openers for Urban. The crowd’s response at these shows plays a crucial role in deciding which contestants will advance in the competition and which ones will have to bid farewell to the tour bus.

Wilson, who has been nominated for ten Grammys, emerged victorious in the category of Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 2005 with her hit debut single “Redneck Woman.” Additionally, she boasts an impressive collection of CMA, ACM, American Music, and Billboard awards.

MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, Lucky Horseshoe Productions by Shelton and Lee Metzger, and Bosque Ranch Productions by Sheridan are collaborating on the production of a project named “The Road“. The project is also being executive produced by David Glasser from 101 Studios, along with Shelton, Metzger, Urban, and Sheridan.
