As a gamer with a background in family law, I can’t help but feel deeply saddened and concerned by this latest development involving Grimes, Elon Musk, and their children. The heart-wrenching plea from Grimes’ mother to allow the children to visit their dying great-grandmother is a poignant reminder of the emotional turmoil that can arise in family disputes.
Last weekend, Grimes’ mother, also known as the indie electro-pop artist’s mom, appealed to Elon Musk on X, being the platform’s proprietor and the kids’ grandfather, requesting him to allow Grimes to bring their children to visit their great-grandmother in Canada. She is currently a nonagenarian and gravely ill.
Claire Boucher, 36-year-old artistically known as Grimes, initiated a lawsuit for parental rights against Elon Musk in September at the Superior Court of California. Additionally, Grimes implied in now-deleted social media posts around that time that Musk was denying her access to one of their sons. Sandy Garossino, Grimes’ mother, shared this information on X last weekend, mentioning that she had exhausted all other options before attempting to contact Musk through his platform.
“Hi Elon @elonmusk, I enjoyed our Father’s Day encounter. I hope you received the thoughtful card made by X with my assistance. He was thrilled about it. I’m contacting you through this platform as it’s the only way I can get in touch.
For several years, Grimes and Musk went out as a couple on and off. During this time, they welcomed three children into their family: X Æ A-Xii, or X, who is now four years old; Exa Dark Sideræl, known as Y, who is two years old; and Techno Mechanicus, referred to as Tau, who is likewise two years old.
“Garossino expressed her deep longing to meet and embrace Claire’s children once more, including the little one she had yet to be introduced to,” he explained about his mother. “She was eagerly anticipating their visit for her birthday celebration this weekend. But sadly, those plans were dashed when the trip was suddenly called off.”
“I was worried to discover that the children won’t be able to join us as you’re keeping them and their necessary passport documents from Claire,” the kids’ grandmother expressed in her post. “It was disconcerting to see you both on TV at the Olympics in Paris yesterday, following your visit to DC earlier in the week.”
As stated in her biography, Garossino – a former trial lawyer turned columnist – directly questioned Elon Musk about the whereabouts of his children: “Could you tell me where they are and who they’re with? They were meant to be with their mother. They should have been here in Canada.”
Garossino urges by saying, “with a heartfelt entreaty from a grandma, pleading that you keep your promise, hand over the children, and supply the necessary documents for them to visit their great-grandmother before she dies. I implore you, Elon. This is causing immense distress for my mother, and it’s crucial for the kids right now.”
12 children, born from three different women, are known to Elon Musk. More recently, he became a father to a third child, who was born this year, with his Neuralink executive partner, Shivon Zilis.
Neither Grimes, Musk, nor Garossino have provided a response to The Hollywood Reporter’s inquiry so far.
