GRRM Praises Newest GoT Spin-Off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

As a long-time fan of George R.R. Martin’s epic tale, I must say I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming spin-off series, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” Having spent countless hours immersed in Westeros and its intricate narratives, I can confidently say that this new series promises to be a delight for book readers.

George R.R. Martin expresses nothing but admiration for the upcoming “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” spin-off series from Game of Thrones, stating that book enthusiasts will enjoy it. As the creator of the groundbreaking “A Song of Ice & Fire” series, as well as other spin-offs like “Fire & Blood” (adapted into “House of the Dragon”), Martin is at the helm of this next Game of Thrones spin-off. The forthcoming show, titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, is based on a collection of novellas penned by Martin, focusing on characters Dunk and Egg (their true names). While “House of the Dragon’s” second season faced criticism from fans for altering events from the novel, Martin promises his readers that they will be satisfied with this latest spin-off production.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, George R.R. Martin discussed the upcoming spin-off titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” This series falls between HBO’s existing adaptations and is set 89 years prior to Game of Thrones and 77 years after House of the Dragon Season 2. The story follows Ser Duncan the Tall (played by Peter Claffey) and his squire Egg, as they attend a tournament at Ashford Meadow. Martin expressed his delight after visiting the set in Northern Ireland in July, particularly impressed by showrunner Ira Parker’s adaptation of Martin’s novellas, to which he couldn’t help but exclaim, “I was amazed!

The actors are fantastic, particularly Dunk and Egg who seem like they’ve leapt straight from the pages of my novel. I have no doubt that my audience will adore them as much as I do. Showrunner Ira Parker is really nailing it.

In the final months of 2025, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will make its debut on HBO and Max. Joining Claffey in the cast are Dexter Sol Ansell, Finn Bennett, Daniel Ings, Sam Spruell, Tanzyn Crawford, and Bertie Carvel.

During its broadcast on HBO, Game of Thrones was a cultural phenomenon that had everyone talking, especially about Westeros. Viewers who followed it live can recall the intense fascination the world held for this fictional land, and the show was a staple topic at the “water-cooler.” Unfortunately, the original series’ last season left much to be desired. However, House of the Dragon has revitalized HBO’s adapted universe with its success, paving the way for additional spin-offs, some of which are now being produced.

Besides planning two additional seasons for “House of the Dragon” and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” HBO has a number of other spin-offs in development. One of these, titled “Aegon’s Conquest, focuses on Aegon the Conqueror, the first King of Westeros. Currently, Mattson Tomlin, who co-wrote The Batman, is working on the script for this new prequel series, set centuries before “House of the Dragon.” Additionally, “The Sea Snake” is in production, centering around Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint from “House of the Dragon”). This series will delve into his earlier life and the ‘Nine Voyages’ that made him famous.

Unfortunately, not all Game of Thrones spin-offs will reach completion as a television series. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the long-awaited Jon Snow series, initially planned by HBO, has been abandoned. As per Kit Harrington’s statement, the project never progressed beyond its early stages of development.
