As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for the craft and the artists who breathe life into our beloved characters, I find myself constantly amazed by the journeys these talented individuals embark upon. Zoe Saldaña, an actress whose resume speaks volumes about her versatility and commitment to her roles, has once again caught my attention.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Zoe Saldaña reappeared on screens last year as Gamora, but it looks like her chances of returning to the role might be slim at the moment. At present, she is headlining the second season of Paramount+’s series “Lioness,” a Taylor Sheridan action series that offers a stark contrast to Saldaña’s cosmic Marvel character and her green skin. It appears that she prefers portraying more relatable human characters, but she’d be open to playing a human in space as long as the makeup requirements are not too excessive.
In terms of actors who’ve graced some of the most monumental films ever made, there aren’t many with a CV as impressive as Zoe Saldana’s. Her performances in the Marvel Cinema Universe and James Cameron’s Avatar series make her unique – she is the sole individual to have a credit in the three highest earning films of all time. Additionally, her role in Avatar: Fire and Ash due next year may further extend this record.
Yet, despite Saldaña’s profound affection for space and cosmic characters, she expresses no interest in spending extended periods in the make-up room again. This could signal trouble for fans anticipating a reappearance of Gamora in future Marvel productions, as Saldaña shared during her interview with Vanity Fair.
“Maybe. I can’t ever say that I won’t ever go to space. I love being in space. I would like to just be a human in space. I don’t see myself going through the three to four hours every morning of makeup. I’m so concerned about just the chemicals and stuff that you’re putting into your system for long periods of time, because we shoot these films in a period of five months. But I love science fiction.”
Zoe Saldaña Regrets One Thing About Her Avengers Appearances
Although Saldaña appears to have moved on from the heavy makeup needed to portray Gamora, she has recently pondered over her role as a member of the Guardians team. In a conversation with Variety, the actress confessed one major regret she has about her later appearances in the series and wished she could redo some scenes if given another chance.
I often find myself wishing I could redo the scenes involving Gamora in the ‘Avengers’ films, as I didn’t fully grasp what the Russo Brothers intended at the time. They are remarkable directors, and the chance they gave me was truly once-in-a-lifetime. Portraying Gamora in their movies has been something I’ve always appreciated. If given another chance, I would have pushed myself harder because it was such a unique opportunity to portray a daughter dealing with father issues – whether she chooses reconciliation or walks away. It would have been even more impactful had I understood its significance back then.
