In 2020, the star-studded series “Afsos” featuring Gulshan Devaiah, Sulagna Panigrahi, Anjali Patil, and Heeba Shah was released. This intriguing blend of black comedy and thriller was helmed by Anurag Kashyap’s sister, Anubhuti Kashyap. Unlike most web series that often have multiple seasons, “Afsos” only had one. The lead actor from the show, Ulajh, has recently disclosed the primary reason for this – it seems the streaming platform may not have gained significantly from the show.
In my conversation with Bollywood Hungama, I, Gulshan Devaiah, opened up about the second installment of Afsos. I shared that when the series was initially penned, I was contracted for three seasons. It’s a common practice among many creators to write multiple seasons in advance. However, despite my hopes, the show didn’t garner enough success to warrant another season.
He mentioned that the show didn’t seem to perform particularly well on Amazon. Additionally, it wasn’t an original production by Amazon, which could have potentially led to a second season if it had been. The series was not heavily advertised compared to how Amazon promotes its originals. He watched Dahaad, and he commented that the promotion for it was impressive. Therefore, he believes the lack of promotion might be why it didn’t do as well.
As a lifestyle expert, I must say that the actor recently revealed some intriguing insights about the show in question. He admitted that it reaches an engaging climax and boasts its own dedicated fan base. However, Devaiah made it clear that he has no issues with the streaming platform, understanding their unique circumstances that prevent them from promoting Afsos to the same extent as their original series.
As a committed follower in this field, I understand these aspects are inherent to the acting profession. It’s simply part of the package, if you will. To clarify, I’m not casting blame on Amazon; they have their own rules and financial constraints that they must adhere to. Needless to say, they can’t breach their established protocols.
The series “Afsos” draws inspiration from the relatively unknown Bengali novel titled “Golper Goru Chaande” and can now be watched on Amazon Prime Video.
In terms of his career, Gulshan recently appeared in the thriller-drama titled “Ulajh,” which co-starred Janhvi Kapoor. The movie was helmed by Sudhanshu Saria and also included Roshan Mathhew, Meiyang Chang, and others in its cast.
Moving on, he eagerly anticipates the upcoming rerelease of his 2015-debut film, Hunterrr. This movie was helmed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni and features Radhika Apte, Sai Tamhankar, Sagar Deshmukh, Neena Kulkarni, among others in significant roles.
