Guy Ritchie Gangster Series Taps Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren & Pierce Brosnan

As a seasoned movie buff with decades of film viewing under my belt, I must say that the upcoming series “The Associate” is shaping up to be a true masterpiece. The all-star cast, led by the enigmatic Tom Hardy, the legendary Helen Mirren, and the suave Pierce Brosnan, is simply too good to pass up.

The renowned director has assembled a powerhouse threesome for his upcoming gangster series named tentatively as “The Associate“. This impressive lineup includes Academy Award nominee, Academy Award winner Helen Mirren, and former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan, who are in advanced talks to join the cast. As per Deadline, “The Associate” is the current title under consideration, and the series is slated to premiere on Paramount+. The story revolves around a fixer character portrayed by Hardy, and the matriarch and patriarch of a crime family played by Mirren and Brosnan respectively.

The report reveals that The Associate will tell an all-new gangster saga and“see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner; and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow.” The series is a one-hour drama which comes courtesy of Showtime, MTV Studios, and 101 Studios and “follows two generations of gangsters, the businesses they run, the complex relationships they weave, and the man they call upon to fix their problems.”

According to reports, Hardy is being considered for the part of Harry, a character known for being both menacing and attractive, in the upcoming series. This would be a reunion for him with director Guy Ritchie, whom he worked with on the 2008 film RocknRolla.

The Associate Was Initially Planned as a Ray Donovan Spin-off

Originally, Guy Ritchie’s movie “The Associate” was planned as a spin-off from the popular Showtime series, where Liev Schreiber portrayed a professional fixer. This show ran for seven seasons and featured a range of illicit activities such as bribes, payoffs, threats, clean-ups, and more. However, according to Variety, the plans have shifted, and “The Associate” is no longer tied to that franchise but has been redeveloped into an independent series with no connections to it.

In addition to stars like Hardy, Mirren, Brosnan, and Ritchie, the series is also written by Ronan Bennett, a renowned writer for creating the critically acclaimed British crime thriller series Top Boy, and who has penned shows such as Public Enemies, Gunpowder, and an upcoming film titled The Day of the Jackal featuring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch. The Associate will be overseen by Ritchie, Bennett, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, and Ivan Atkinson in executive production roles.

Known for his work in the gangster genre, Guy Ritchie first made a name for himself with the critically praised movies “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch.” Over the years, he’s revisited the criminal underworld multiple times, most recently with the 2019 film “The Gentlemen,” which has now been transformed into a Netflix series starring Theo James and Kaya Scodelario. In this show, an aristocrat inherits a family estate that harbors a massive marijuana empire. Excitingly, “The Gentlemen” has been renewed for a second season.

Tom Hardy is getting ready to rejoin Sony’s Spider-Man Universe for the last time in “Venom: The Last Dance”, while Helen Mirren will appear next in the Netflix murder mystery titled “The Thursday Murder Club”. She will be working alongside Pierce Brosnan in this project. Additionally, you can look forward to seeing her in the prequel of “Yellowstone” called “1923”.
