Guy Ritchie & Henry Cavill’s WW2 Film Becomes a Surprising Streaming Sensation!

With other ventures on the horizon, collaborators Guy Ritchie and Matthew Vaughn are witnessing their joint project, “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” experience a surge in popularity within the streaming landscape. A year following its debut, this action-comedy war film has become a significant streaming success.

The Lionsgate production titled “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” featuring actors Alan Ritchson and Eiza González, is climbing up the Starz streaming rankings. In fact, it’s creating quite a stir in the top five worldwide, with strong viewership not only in the United States but also in various European nations such as Spain and Denmark.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Chronicles World War II

During World War II, I found myself captivated by the account of Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive and their pivotal role in Operation Postmaster, a clandestine mission orchestrated to counter Adolf Hitler’s formidable fleet of U-boats. This gripping tale follows a tight-knit squad of battle-hardened soldiers handpicked by Churchill for this critical mission.

At the helm is Gus March-Phillipps (Cavill), the visionary behind the British Army’s Small Scale Raiding Force (SSRF). Alongside him is Anders Laasen (Ritchson), a resourceful Danish military officer, Geoffrey Appleyard (Alex Pettyfer), a seasoned British Army officer who later marries the glamorous Marjorie Phillips (González). Together, this motley crew employs unorthodox tactics to outmaneuver the Nazis and shift the tide of war.

Despite flopping at the box office, only managing to recoup half of its $60 million budget, “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” received generally favorable reviews, boasting a 68% critical rating and 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Since the beginning of this year, the film has been making strides in the streaming market.

As a passionate movie buff, I’m excited to share that my second collaboration with director Guy Ritchie, following our 2015 adventure with “The Man From U.N.C.L.E”, is the upcoming action-packed thriller, “In the Grey”. In this film, I find myself working alongside the talented Miguel Ángel Silvestre once more. This Lionsgate production, penned and produced by Ritchie himself, also stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rosamund Pike. Unfortunately, a release date for “In the Grey” has yet to be announced; initially slated for a January premiere, it’s currently on hold.

In addition to his current projects, Cavill is also involved in the development of a live-action adaptation of the popular series, Voltron, as well as a reboot of the classic film, Highlander. At present, Ritchie’s Apple TV+ movie, Fountain of Youth, has been released, featuring stars like John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. However, it has received a 38% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Nevertheless, it is still worth giving it a watch.

Fans can stream The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare via Starz.
