As a movie enthusiast who’s spent countless hours immersed in Guy Ritchie’s cinematic universe, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the renewal of “The Gentlemen” for a second season on Netflix! The first season was a rollercoaster ride of crime, comedy, and a dash of British wit that harkened back to his earlier masterpieces like “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels” and “RocknRolla.”
It’s great news for Guy Ritchie as The Gentlemen, his series, has been given the green light for another season on Netflix. Originating from the 2019 movie of the same title, The Gentlemen made its debut on Netflix earlier this year and swiftly attracted a significant following. Over the course of its first month, it managed to draw in a total of 44 million viewers. Consisting of eight episodes, the series stars Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Giancarlo Esposito, and Ritchie’s frequent collaborator Vinnie Jones among others.
I’m thrilled to share that, as confirmed by Variety, I’ll be rejoining my fellow cast members James and Scodelario in Season 2 of “The Gentlemen.” Director Guy Ritchie is also set to return as writer/director, joined by co-writer Matthew Read. While we don’t know yet who else will join the new season, filming is scheduled for next year, so we’ll need to be patient until it premieres. Anne Mensah, VP of Content for Netflix UK, has made the wise decision to renew “The Gentlemen” for another journey, and like the rest of us, they can hardly wait to see where it takes us next.
In 2024, “The Gentlemen,” with its gun-wielding chickens and Duke characters dealing drugs, became a massive crowd-pleaser. Given Guy Ritchie’s enduring reputation as a trailblazer in the industry who crafts uniquely British tales with his distinctive blend of toughness, humor, and style, this success was hardly unexpected. We’re eagerly anticipating the return of the series to Netflix for another season, where we’ll witness the intriguing clash between high society and criminal underworlds yet again.
The narrative centers around James portraying Eddie Horniman, a former Army Captain who unexpectedly inherits an estate and the title of Duke of Halstead. It soon becomes evident that the property is being utilized for a marijuana farm overseen by Susie Glass, played by Scodelario. With a vibrant cast of eccentric characters reminiscent of Ritchie’s past productions (like Snatch or anyone familiar with Snatch), this series combines elements of crime, humor, and pays homage to the creator’s earlier works such as Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, and RocknRolla.
What Can We Expect in Season 2 of The Gentlemen?
Although specific plot points are still secret, it’s clear that “The Gentlemen” could head in numerous directions. By killing off Henry Collins and revealing that Ray Winstone’s character, Bobby Glass, never intended to retire but instead wants to pass his empire onto Horniman and Susie, director Ritchie has certainly left the door open for further storylines in a potential second season.
As a follower of Scodelario, I’ve shared her hope that “The Gentlemen” transcends its UK boundaries, and it’s because I share her sentiments. In an interview with Collider earlier this year, the “Resident Evil” actress openly admitted that she isn’t particularly fond of England’s weather.
“I’m not sure about the specifics, but I find it intriguing to imagine Susie and Eddie discussing the business aspects of their venture and the overall structure. It would be enlightening to understand how she’s managed to build her empire. On a personal level, I’d enjoy seeing them travel abroad. England was enjoyable, yet quite chilly and rainy. Perhaps they could visit a sunny destination overseas instead.”
It appears they might take a break, but it’s unlikely to last an entire season. They could follow the example of the Sons of Anarchy and explore another country temporarily, like the biker gang did during Season 3 on FX. In any case, we’re eagerly anticipating the surprises that Ritchie has planned for us when The Gentlemen makes its grand return to Netflix a few years down the line.
