This is the adaptation of Don Winslow’s “Crime 101,” which has been listed on Berry’s resume for some time. What makes this more exciting is that although Berry won’t be reprising her role in “Avengers: Doomsday,” she will encounter some Avengers in the upcoming film instead.

After the Black Girl Nerds interview following Amazon-MGM Studios’ 2025 CinemaCon Panel, the original Storm actor expressed excitement about this new venture, suggesting it’s a cinematic experience not to be missed. Given that Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo from Thor: Ragnarok are part of the ensemble, this appears to be a role worth taking on.

As a film enthusiast, I must say that when Halle Berry teams up with Chris Hemsworth (from Extraction) as her jewel-thief partner, it’s nothing short of thrilling! Add to that, our very own Mark Ruffalo, playing a detective in hot pursuit, investigating the intricate web of crime surrounding these daring heists. In essence, we’re witnessing Mark Ruffalo delve into cases involving a stunningly attractive and skilled crew, with millions at stake.

It seems very reminiscent and inviting, and although I might recall it more clearly later, what I can currently express is that an actress known for portraying the seasoned Bond girl from “Die Another Day” will be appearing in a role about a woman who has been overlooked for a leadership post because of her age.

Given that the company where Halle Berry is employed provides insurance plans for individuals who seemingly have excess wealth, her pursuit of retribution seems fraught with complications, as she described in an interview with THR.

In terms of scale, Bart Layton, director/co-writer of “Crime 101”, hints that L.A’s 101 Freeway plays a significant role, suggesting the film might resemble the scale of “The Italian Job” (2003) rather than the densely plotted “Heat”. Interestingly, Peter Straughan, a 2025 Academy Award winner, is involved in this production, adding another notable name to the impressive cast.

The collaborator on “Crime 110” lately won an award for his part in adapting Robert Harris’s “Conclave,” which was also previously nominated for his work on the overlooked gem “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” featuring Gary Oldman. To suggest that Straughan is familiar with plot twists and genre intricacies would be a significant understatement.

Despite the anticipation surrounding the upcoming release of “Crime 101”, its trailer remains unseen. We’re relying on firsthand accounts from CinemaCon and our imaginations to fill in the gaps. The tantalizing descriptions are enough to pique my interest in Don Winslow’s novella, as I eagerly look forward to immersing myself in the story and envision Halle Berry making off with the loot quicker than one can utter “Now You See Me”.
