As a seasoned gamer who has witnessed countless virtual dramas unfold on screen, I can’t help but feel a heavy heart upon reading about the real-life tragedy that befell Halyna Hutchins and her family. Having spent countless hours immersed in fictional worlds, it’s disheartening to see a life cut short in such a senseless manner.
Olga Solovey, Halyna Hutchins’ mother, has decided not to attend the Poland premiere of the movie Rust, scheduled for Wednesday, due to Alec Baldwin‘s handling of her daughter’s passing continuing to be a source of increased distress for her.
It had long been my dream to see my daughter’s work debut in Poland,” Solovey expressed in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday. “Regrettably, this dream was cruelly taken from me when Alec Baldwin accidentally fired his weapon, leading to the loss of my beloved daughter.
The movie titled Rust is about to make its debut at Poland’s Camerimage International Film Festival on Wednesday, marking three years since an incident involving Baldwin, the film’s star and producer, where a prop gun accidentally went off and took the life of Hutchins, the film’s cinematographer.
Alec Baldwin’s unwillingness to apologize and admit fault in connection with my daughter’s death only intensifies my suffering, as he instead tries to unjustly capitalize on his role in her demise. This is why I am choosing not to participate in the festival promoting the film Rust, especially given that there remains no justice for my daughter.
Baldwin’s trial for involuntary manslaughter concluded in July with the case being dropped following a late hearing centered around the handling of some bullets by the police and prosecutors. On March 6, a jury in Santa Fe convicted Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer from Rust, and she is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence as a result.
Despite the fact that Mr. Baldwin fired the gun that resulted in Halyna’s death, he has yet to reach out with an apology, according to Gloria Allred, lawyer for Hutchins’ family. In her statement to THR, she added that Baldwin had shown disrespect towards Halyna’s parents, siblings, and mother by his actions, and not only has there been no apology, but he has also made the matter worse by contending, through his lawyers, that Halyna was detached from her family in Ukraine. This assertion is false, harmful, and deeply offensive.
Reflecting on her words, I can’t help but feel deeply disturbed. It’s heartless, disrespectful, and an insult to Halyna’s memory, not to reach out to her family in apology after the unfortunate incident. The fact that they’re now pushing for sales of Rust, seeking profit for Alec Baldwin and others involved in this tragic event, just feels wrong. It seems they’re planning to capitalize on Halyna’s demise, something her family vehemently opposes as it goes against the essence of decency and respect for their loved one.
On Tuesday morning, tickets for the Rust premiere at Camerimage quickly sold out, causing a temporary crash in their website due to high demand.
I, as a keen follower, reached out to Camerimage in hope of their comments regarding Solovey and Allred’s statements, but have yet to receive a reply. Similarly, I have extended an inquiry to the publicist handling the Rust producers, eagerly awaiting their response.
