Thanks to my Disney+ subscription, I’m fortunate enough to stream the entire production of Hamilton featuring the original cast whenever I desire. However, watching it live on a Broadway stage with any cast remains an unfulfilled dream on my bucket list. This revelation has me scrutinizing my calendar and finances since fans will soon get another opportunity to witness Hamilton with one of its original stars, but only for a limited time.
This morning, the verified Hamilton musical account shared that Leslie Odom Jr., who previously earned a Tony Award for his portrayal of Aaron Burr, is coming back to “the room where it happens.” However, fans eager to catch him in action will have a brief window, as he’ll perform at shows from September 9 to November 23 this year.
It’s no wonder fans are getting excited, given that Odom departed from the show in the summer of 2016, accompanied by two other original Hamilton cast members, Phillipa Soo and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Notably, Miranda has returned to his role as Alexander Hamilton on a few occasions following his Broadway exit, with his latest performances being in Puerto Rico for some shows during a fundraiser post Hurricane Maria in 2019.
For those who can’t experience Broadway in person, we have the delight of enjoying “Hamilton” on Disney+. Originally intended for a theatrical release, the decision was made to bring it to Disney+ early due to the global pandemic, and it premiered on July 3, 2020.

On Disney+, enjoy the original cast of “Hamilton,” including Leslie Odom Jr., for $9.99 per month without ads. Catch this Tony Award-winning performance from the comfort of your home. Check out the deal here!
It’s worth noting that the same actor who originally played King George III, Jonathan Groff, came back for a brief appearance in the show. Interestingly, he had already departed before filming began. He chose to return for only two performances to ensure the entire original cast was present together. While everyone else seemed thrilled at this reunion, it appears that the front two rows got an unexpected shower of spit from Groff!
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Hamilton on Broadway, and it seems that Leslie Odom Jr.’s return to the role is partly intended as a way to celebrate this milestone. Few Broadway shows manage to last as long as this one has. The fact that Leslie Odom Jr. can reprise his role after a decade speaks volumes about the show’s enduring power. Despite the absence of its original star-studded cast, it remains popular enough to keep running.
Tickets for the musical “Hamilton” up until Odom’s comeback are now available for purchase. It seems that tickets for Odom’s first performance back on September 9 have already been snapped up. At present, these tickets typically cost around $200, which is approximately $50 higher than the price for shows happening before his return.
