HarbourView Equity Partners announced on Wednesday that they have secured the rights to the revenue streams from the producer royalties of multiple Grammy-winning music producer and songwriter Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This transaction represents another significant move concerning Jerkins’ collection of songs, coming after he previously sold his publishing catalog to Recognition Music Group (previously known as Hipgnosis Songs Fund) in 2020. HarbourView chose not to disclose the financial specifics of this deal. Chapter Two, a Swedish firm focusing on music rights transactions, played a role in finalizing the agreement, according to HarbourView.
Excitedly, I’m about to own a piece of music history with my recent purchase! This includes the royalty rights for some legendary tracks like “The Boy Is Mine” by Brandy and Monica, “It’s Not Right but It’s Okay” by Whitney Houston, “Say My Name” by Destiny Child, the collaboration between Lady Gaga and Beyoncé on “Telephone,” Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me,” and Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me.” Next month, the talented Jerry ‘Jerkins’ is set to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a well-deserved recognition for his incredible contributions to music.
At HarbourView, our aim is to collect and showcase exceptional works from around the world, so it’s crucial that we acknowledge, safeguard, and honor the achievements of renowned artists like Rodney Jerkins. As such, Sherrese Clarke, HarbourView’s founder and CEO, expressed in a statement that we are delighted to welcome him into our family here at HarbourView, feeling privileged by his choice to work with us.
Before the Darkchild agreement, HarbourView had obtained rights from prominent musicians, authors, and producers such as T-Pain, Pat Benatar, Kane Brown, Luis Fonsi, James Fauntleroy, Wiz Khalifa, and Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac, among others. Fox Rothschild served as HarbourView’s legal advisor during the acquisition, while Jerkins was represented by Pamela L. Klein from Rossi Baldivia Klein Fine & Spector, P.C.
(I tried to maintain a similar structure but made it more conversational and easier to understand.)
Jerkins stated, “HarbourView genuinely appreciates the worth of music and those who craft it. These music creators deserve recognition and transparency in the process of selling their lifelong creations, and collaborating with HarbourView and Chapter Two has made this entire procedure feel effortlessly smooth.
Michael Traore, the head of Chapter Two, stated that this agreement serves as a strong indication that artists are now understanding the genuine worth of their creations in an increasingly swift and transparent manner compared to previous times.
According to Traore, “Rodney is establishing a remarkable standard within the industry, and we appreciate HarbourView’s foresight for collaborating with us.
