Harrison Ford, Aimee Lou Wood and Cooper Koch Among First-Time Emmy Nominees in Acting Categories

The list of contenders for the 2025 Emmy Awards has been revealed, featuring 35 actors making their debut in these categories. Among them are Harrison Ford, Aimee Lou Wood, Cooper Koch, Kristen Bell, and Colin Farrell.

During adolescence, Owen Cooper achieved a groundbreaking recognition as a contender for the Best Supporting Actor accolade in a limited/anthology series or TV movie. This nomination makes him the most youthful candidate to be recognized in this category’s history. Moreover, if he triumphs and takes home the award later this year, Cooper will become the youngest male recipient of an acting Emmy to date.

Acting colleague of Ashley Walters on the show “Cooper’s Adolescence”, Stephen Graham, received his first Emmy nomination in the same category. The Netflix series amassed a total of 13 nominations. Graham was recognized for best actor in a limited or anthology series or movie, while Erin Doherty and Christine Tremarco were both nominated for best supporting actress in the same category.

On Tuesday, Ford earned his initial Emmy nomination for his role as therapist Dr. Paul Rhoades in Apple TV+’s series “Shrinking.” He was nominated along with his fellow actor, Michael Urie, in the category of best supporting actor in a comedy series.

Competing closely with “The Studio,” “The White Lotus” earned the third highest number of nominations, totaling 23. Among these nods was Jennifer Coolidge’s first nomination for her portrayal of Chelsea in the best supporting drama actress category. In addition to Coolidge, newcomers from the “The White Lotus” cast receiving their initial nominations include Scott Glenn (in the guest actor in a drama series category) and Jason Isaacs (in the supporting actor in a drama category).

Almost half of the nominees for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie were first-time nominees. These newcomers include Farrell from “The Penguin”, Graham from “Adolescence”, Jake Gyllenhaal in “Presumed Innocent”, and Koch from “Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story”.

This version maintains the original’s structure and meaning, but uses more conversational language to make it easier for readers to understand.

In the Netflix production titled “Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story,” Koch received recognition for his depiction of Erik Menendez. This Ryan Murphy series, which is based on the real-life case of the Menendez brothers, garnered a total of four nominations. Among these were Javier Bardem’s and Chloë Sevigny’s first nominations for their portrayals of José and Kitty Menendez respectively.

Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard, just like others, received their initial Emmy acting nominations for their performances in “The Studio.” Anthony Mackie and Zoë Kravitz were similarly acknowledged for their roles in the Apple TV+ series, with Mackie being nominated as the best guest comedy actor and Kravitz as the best guest comedy actress. Ike Barinholtz also gained his first acting nomination, this time for the best supporting actor in a comedy, thanks to his portrayal of Sal Saperstein.

In this production titled “Nobody Wants This“, both Bell and Adam Brody make their initial Emmy nomination appearances. Additionally, the Netflix comedy series received recognition in the “Best Comedy Series” category. Robby Hoffman also secured her first Emmy nomination in the “Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series” category for her role in “Hacks“.

Approximately half of the actors nominated for Best Supporting Drama Actor were first-time nominees. In addition to Isaacs, Zach Cherry and Tramell Tillman were among those who received nominations, both recognized for their performances as Dylan George and Seth Milchick in the series Severance.

In the Emmy Awards nominations, “Severance” topped the list with a remarkable 27 nominations across various categories, including best drama series. Actress Britt Lower, who plays Helly R in the Apple TV+ show, received her first-ever nomination for best drama actress. Right behind “Severance” came “The Penguin,” earning 24 nominations, with Cristin Milioti receiving her first acting nomination for best actress in a limited or anthology series and Deirdre O’Connell being recognized for her performance with a nod for best supporting actress in the same category.

As a gamer, I’m excitedly watching the awards ceremony unfold, and let me tell you, The Pitt is really making its presence felt! With a whopping 13 nominations across various categories, this series has certainly caught the attention of the judges. Among these nods, two newcomers have made their mark – Katherine LaNasa, nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and Shawn Hatosy, nominated as Guest Actor in a Drama. It’s their debut on this prestigious stage, and I can hardly wait to see how they’ll shine!

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that every actress nominated for the Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie category this year was a first-time Emmy nominee. Among them are Julia Goldman (Doherty), Amy Ryan (O’Connell), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Sevigny), and Jodie Comer (Tremarco). Additionally, the talented Jenny Slate from ‘Dying for Sex’ and Ruth Negga from ‘Presumed Innocent’ also received their inaugural Emmy acting nominations yesterday. What an exciting time for these remarkable women in television!

J.K. Simmons received a nomination in the ‘outstanding performer in a short-form comedy/drama series’ category, just like Tom Segura for his work in ‘Bad Thoughts‘, both in the same category. They were nominated for their roles in ‘Die Hart: Hart to Kill‘ and ‘Bad Thoughts‘ respectively.

In the comedic supporting role category, Jeff Hiller, an actor from the show “Somebody Somewhere,” was among the four debut nominees, alongside Barinholtz, Ford, and Urie.
