Harrison Ford Joined MCU Without Seeing ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Script

In approximately one week, on February 14, the premiere of “Captain America: Brave New World” is set to take place. Before we reach that point, it’s worth mentioning that star Harrison Ford recently discussed an unusual method he used to become a part of the Marvel Universe. In the upcoming MCU film, Ford appears alongside Anthony Mackie and Giancarlo Esposito as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who holds dual roles as the President of the United States and Red Hulk.

As I sat down for a comprehensive chat with Wall Street Journal Magazine, I shared my story about diving into the Marvel Cinematic Universe without even glancing at the script for Captain America: Brave New World. This approach isn’t alien to me, as it mirrors how I got on board with the casts of Shrinking and 1923. Instead, what drew me in were the esteemed directors and talented actors associated with these projects, compelling me to be a part of the Marvel Universe.

Why not? I saw enough Marvels to see actors that I admired having a good time.

Ford admitted he wasn’t expecting to transform into the Red Hulk in the end,” he explained, going on to say, “It’s like life. You think you have all the instructions, but sometimes the last one is missing.” Earlier, things weren’t this way, but his unconventional method in his profession has proven beneficial so far. He achieved success with the prequel series to Yellowstone, titled 1923, and Apple TV’s Shrinking. These two distinct shows have given him the privilege of collaborating with exceptional cast members, and they’ve also reignited his passion for acting by keeping him guessing about what lies ahead.

“It’s a surprise every time the script comes out. I’ve never done that in my life.”

Harrison Ford Approached Marvel About Joining the MCU

Ford’s admission to the Wall Street Journal about jumping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe without reading the script for “Captain America: Brave New World” aligns with what producer Nate Moore stated last year regarding Ford’s role in the project. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he explained that it was actually the 82-year-old actor who contacted the studio expressing his desire to play alongside everyone, which is why he agreed to join the film without reading the script as a tribute to one of his deceased colleagues.

It turned out that Harrison Ford expressed interest to Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, about possibly joining the Marvel universe. Frankly, we didn’t expect anyone would be willing. Harrison seemed to view it as a chance not only to pay tribute to William Hurt’s performance but also to carry forward that character’s storyline, which he found intriguing in previous films.

Initial estimates predict that the upcoming film “Captain America: Brave New World” will potentially generate earnings ranging from $85 to $95 million in its opening weekend, and could even reach up to $100 million during the extended four-day period encompassing Valentine’s Day and President’s Day. Advance tickets for this movie are now available as it hits theaters nationwide on February 14, distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
