Harrods Becomes a One-Stop-Shop for All Things Loro Piana This Winter

As a long-time admirer of both Harrods and Loro Piana, I must say that this year’s holiday collaboration left me absolutely spellbound! Growing up, I used to dream about the magical Christmas displays at Harrods, and now, as an adult, I find myself equally enchanted by the exquisite craftsmanship of Loro Piana.

As winter approaches, I find myself drawn to Harrods’ magical holiday transformation once more. Yet, this year, the traditional charm of the British department store takes a unique twist as the esteemed luxury label Loro Piana gracefully marks its 100th anniversary within these hallowed halls.

Celebrated as a “Workshop of Marvels,” this comprehensive takeover envelops not only the exterior but also interior spaces such as unique pop-ups and fresh boutiques. To honor its centennial, intricate decorations and dazzling exhibits are arranged to highlight its legacy in craftsmanship by narrating the story of its garments and accessories in a festive and harmonious manner. TopMob visited Harrods during the holiday season to explore this takeover.

Starting at the well-known Brompton Road frontage, you’ll notice circles of fiber bales surrounding a radiant Christmas tree. Beneath, a series of 36 windows offer peeks into various aspects of its production process. These windows highlight materials like Vicuña from South America, Merino wool from Australia and New Zealand, Cashmere from Mongolia, and Pecora Nera® from New Zealand. Inside the windows, you’ll see garments and decorative items crafted from these specific fibers. Tracing back to Italy, the central window showcases its factory and a rotating globe that links all the elements together.

Stepping into this gaming world, the narrative unfolds as I approach “Door 6” and “Door 9” on the ground floor. The former is a treasure trove of luxurious woolen items, from adorable alpaca figurines to hats and scarves, even offering personalized monogramming for the Grande Unita Scarf. On the other hand, “Door 9” overflows with artisanal ornaments, making it a must-visit spot for unique holiday accessories. Until late December, the store is hosting workshops where I can test my skills and create my own cashmere festive decorations.

After the holiday season, Harrods will continue to host two newly opened Loro Piana boutiques: one dedicated to children’s clothing and another featuring home collection items. Additionally, a unique assortment of Loro Piana products developed specifically for Harrods will remain available throughout the coming year, serving as a testament to the brand’s lasting collaboration with the store.
