Harry Potter fans slam ‘soulless’ Quidditch Champions gameplay

As a longtime Harry Potter fan and avid gamer, I can’t help but feel underwhelmed by the latest Quidditch Champions gameplay trailer. Having grown up playing the Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup game back in 2003, I had high hopes for this spiritual successor. But unfortunately, it seems we might be in for a disappointment.

Before Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions sets sail this year, a fresh gameplay trailer for the game has drawn mixed reactions from fans, who seem underwhelmed by their latest journey into the magical world of Harry Potter. Although Harry Potter games reached their height in the 2000s, there’s been renewed excitement lately due to the upcoming release of Hogwarts Legacy.

As a longtime Harry Potter fan who grew up reading the books and watching the movies, I was initially disappointed when I heard that Hogwarts Legacy didn’t include Quidditch. I mean, come on, what’s a magical school without the iconic sport? But then I learned some exciting news: Warner Bros. Interactive was saving Quidditch for a standalone game called Quidditch Champions, developed by Unbroken Studios.

I believe it’s important to address the controversy surrounding the creation of Hogwarts Legacy and the comments made by J.K. Rowling, the creator of the Harry Potter franchise, about transgender people on her social media platform. I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter, and growing up, those books were an integral part of my life. They provided me with hours of joy and escapism during my childhood.

I’d strongly recommend that you take some time to check out our explanation of the ongoing controversy, and think about making a donation to organizations that advocate for transgender rights if you’re able.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions trailer is torn apart by critics

When Warner Bros. unveiled the latest Quidditch Champions trailer, viewers criticized it heavily. Previously, we’ve witnessed impressive Quidditch matches, such as in Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup (2003). Unfortunately, Quidditch Champions might not live up to expectations, appearing as a less-than-stellar follow-up.

One critic expressed disappointment, saying, “This game feels like an uninspired replica of the Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup from the 2000s, almost like modern EA produced it.” Another commented, “I hope this costs twenty dollars.” A third critic lamented, “It seems as if I’m playing a Nintendo 64 game.” However, some are eagerly anticipating it, particularly with the announcement of a solo career mode.

Despite some progress, it seems we haven’t advanced as much as desired for certain individuals. The most critical among them argue that the Seeker footage resembles that of a PlayStation 1 game. We had anticipated that by now, Electronic Arts (EA) would have updated the mechanics rather than having us chase after the Golden Snith through vibrant hoops after 21 years.

Previously, gameplay for Quidditch Champions was accidentally released online, so the unveiling of new features isn’t particularly shocking. Opinions about this game are divided; some players express dislike towards the Quidditch elements in earlier Harry Potter titles. The trailer aims to generate excitement and encourage digital pre-orders. Two editions will be available: Standard and Deluxe, with the Firebolt Supreme Broom Skin as an added perk for each.

In simpler terms, the Harry Potter universe made a large profit from Hogwarts Legacy. However, without the promised DLC and the absence of playing Quidditch, the franchise may not hold the same appeal as before. While it’s nice to see Cho Chang featured more prominently, is that enough incentive for you to buy Quidditch Champions?
