As someone who grew up with Harry Potter and watched Bonnie Wright evolve from a young Ginny Weasley to the woman she is today, I couldn’t agree more with her take on the new cast. Just like we didn’t know where the story was heading back then, these new actors are about to embark on an incredible journey that will undoubtedly shape their lives.
Following the blockbuster movie versions of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World books that shaped a generation of fantasy enthusiasts, Max has been working on a TV series based around Harry Potter. This upcoming show promises to revisit all seven novels while providing a richer narrative than the films. As fans eagerly await news about the new cast for this series, Bonnie Wright hinted at offering advice to the new actors once they’re selected, and I can completely relate to her perspective on it.
Speaking with Variety, the actress who played Ginny Weasley reminisced about her 10-year journey portraying Harry Potter’s romantic interest. These memories serve as a foundation for any advice she might offer to the new cast members in their roles. To put it simply, she said: “My experiences from playing Ginny Weasley for a decade help shape my thoughts on what I might advise the new actors.
As we crafted the stories, we were unaware of Harry Potter’s ultimate direction. During that era, social media didn’t exist, and access to public opinion was limited, creating a unique self-contained environment. Yet, it provided an exciting chance for those involved in casting or acting roles to enjoy themselves and bring their own unique interpretations to life.
Back in 2001, when the original Harry Potter cast stepped onto the sets of Hogwarts for “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, social media platforms such as Instagram or Twitter didn’t exist. As Bonnie Wright noted, they enjoyed a unique privacy on set while filming the movies, but this level of seclusion may not be possible for the new cast given the prevalence of social media today.
Despite the high expectations, Bonnie Wright believes the new cast members should enjoy their characters and bring their unique touch to them. She feels they’ll face more pressure because of the popularity of the original films, but she wants to help ease any anxiety by offering guidance rather than adding to the tension when they step into their roles in the Wizarding World. I believe this is a wise approach.
To put it simply, I’m not certain I could offer guidance, as I believe it’s crucial for them to explore and understand their own take on things. From an actor’s or director’s point of view, this uniqueness is essential. As a spectator now, I eagerly anticipate observing each week on TV, hoping the interpretations will be unique, vibrant, and refreshing.

All things considered, it appears that the actress known as Sea is aiming to offer the same high-end experience to the stars, enabling them to deliver their performances without any external distractions or voices in their ears. Yet, it’s expected that fans will share their opinions when the cast is announced. Nevertheless, it’s likely reassuring for the actors to know they won’t face pressure from at least one long-standing franchise original.
Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley, is looking forward to watching the series when it comes out in 2026 and has expressed her wish that instead of the two-hour movies they made for each book, they could have had five-hour films to delve deeper into their characters. Wright feels that Ginny’s character was not fully developed in the movies, and she hopes that the showrunners will address this by including more subtle moments related to Ginny in the series.
Ms. Wright kindly expressed her reluctance to join the series due to finding it potentially confusing, but she’s wonderfully supportive of the future cast members who are yet to be chosen. Bravo to her for her thoughtful perspective!
