Warning: SPOILERS for the Suits LA episode “Acapulco” are ahead!
The flashback narrative of “Suits LA” has been tracing Stephen Amell’s character, Ted Black, who was a federal prosecutor in New York City in 2010, aiming to imprison a crime boss named John Pellegrini. Recently, Gabriel Macht’s character Harvey Specter entered the scene when he alerted Ted, a former teammate from his baseball days, about an informant in Ted’s office who was working for Pellegrini. This encounter happened a year before Harvey met Mike Ross in the original “Suits”, and it has been confirmed that Macht will reprise his role as Harvey Specter two more times on the spinoff, which takes place prior to the events of the original series.
In the upcoming “Acapulco” episode of “Suits LA,” slated for 2025 television lineup, Harvey Specter reappears on two different timelines. Apart from setting the stage for a new character from “Suits” to enter the scene, he also added an unexpected twist at the climax, appearing unannounced at Ted’s residence in the present time.
How Harvey Came Back Into Suits LA’s Flashback Storyline
In the flashback storyline of “Acapulco,” Ted Black’s attempt to convict John Pellegrini encountered a snag when one of his witnesses, Jimmy Patriale, was exposed as lying on the stand. Unlike his initial statement, it was revealed that Patriale, who had carried out 15 murders at Pellegrini’s behest, was not personally instructed by his boss to kill five specific individuals, including Billy Esposito from the pilot episode of “Suits LA,” while he was away. Instead, these instructions were given during his absence.
Later on, Patriale confessed to Ted and detective Kevin that he had fabricated details about how his orders were given, as he was aware that Pellegrini would have him eliminated if he didn’t provide the information they desired in return for a protection agreement. However, Patriale maintained that he did receive an in-person order from Pellegrini to kill Esposito, but since he had been exposed as a liar during the trial, the jury was unlikely to trust anything else he said. Nevertheless, after discussing the matter with Stuart Lane, who previously represented Patriale during the current season and returned to New York on his client’s behalf, Ted agreed to have Patriale testify again about the murder of Esposito.

they aimed to accuse Pellegrini of racketeering instead, which wasn’t as solid a case. Fortunately, they discovered vital information saved by Billy Esposito’s daughter – there were around 30 companies linked to Pellegrini, one of which was a client of Harvey Specter‘s law firm.
Ted and Harvey convened at their preferred watering hole, where Ted asked Harvey to share the financial records of the company since Ted couldn’t issue a subpoena due to lack of time. However, Harvey declined. Yet, after Patriale testified for the second time, Harvey experienced a shift in his stance and handed over the records to both Ted and Kevin. This change was prompted by the company severing ties with their lawyer, Daniel Hardman, following his departure. To discover more about Hardman’s exit from the firm, you can tune into Suits on either Netflix or Peacock. Interestingly, this situation paves the way for David Costabile to reprise his role as Hardman in the upcoming series, Suits LA.
How Harvey’s Come Into Suits LA’s Present Day Narrative
Before moving forward, it’s worth mentioning that I had anticipated Gabriel Macht would portray Harvey Specter in the contemporary setting during “Acapulco”. This was evident from the sneak peek, as Harvey was depicted at Ted Black’s Los Angeles residence. What took me by surprise, however, was the revelation that he’d re-enter Harvey’s life to discuss John Pellegrini of all topics. Fifteen years later, with Pellegrini set for release from prison, Harvey returned to take Harvey back to New York to ensure this criminal remains imprisoned permanently.
It’s puzzling why things have transpired as they did, but after learning the news, Ted conveyed to me that I wouldn’t receive anything if I hadn’t carried out the actions I did. Harvey, however, chose not to express remorse for whatever it was, so we’ll have to find out more next week. It’s also relevant to note that following Harvey’s sharing of financial records with Ted and Kevin in 2010, Kevin was hesitant to pursue the racketeering case due to the murder charge, fearing it might be pushing our luck. However, inspired by Harvey’s idea, Ted decided to proceed when Harvey proposed we manipulate Daniel Hardman into testifying against the company without him realizing he’d be speaking against his client.
It’s a mystery to me how they’ll manage that, but it could be that this strategy is what enabled John Pellegrini to escape prison after 15 years. Regardless, Gabriel Macht has one more appearance on Suits LA scheduled (he might not appear again in the future), so I’m excited to find out what becomes of Harvey, both in 2010 and when the spinoff airs its next episode next Sunday at 9 pm ET on NBC.
