As a design enthusiast with a penchant for unique pieces that tell a story, I am utterly captivated by the HAVEN x Apapacho collaboration! Growing up in Mexico City and now residing in Vancouver, I can’t help but appreciate the fusion of traditional Mexican craftsmanship with contemporary sensibilities.
Vancouver-based retailer HAVEN, specializing in outdoor and lifestyle products, has introduced a collection of handcrafted home items in collaboration with Apapacho. This partnership between Haven and the Mexican design studio resulted in two modern home accessories made using age-old Mexican crafting techniques and local stone materials.
At Apapacho, they specialize in creating art pieces that draw heavily from Mexico City’s rich cultural history. They primarily use indigenous materials like clay, onyx, marble, and volcanic rock for their craft. Local artisans, whose workshops are visible in the gallery, were employed to carefully chisel each piece. Apapacho acknowledges the significant role of master stone artisan Toño González, who employs traditional methods to transform these materials into exquisite finished forms using ancestral techniques.

As a gamer, I’d describe these items like this: The first one is a versatile bookend-cum-vase, with a six-sided fluted design and a tiny cylindrical opening right in the middle. The second piece, referred to as “the valuables box,” is a compact rectangular container, equipped with a removable lid, and adorned with intricate miniature flutes on its top surface. These two objects, when combined, are not just functional but also stylish, blending contemporary aesthetics with a rich cultural legacy.
According to HAVEN, the combined efforts signify a mutual belief among partners: “crafting items that surpass utility to transform into lasting masterpieces, encapsulating the essence of cooperation and artistic conversation.
On this coming Friday, November 22nd, our store in Vancouver, HAVEN, will be hosting a unique event to unveil the official launch of their latest collaboration.
