Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye, recently revealed that a disrespectful proposal was the reason why Hawkeye Season 2 didn’t happen during his tenure. Renner teamed up with Hailee Steinfeld as Clint Barton and Kate Bishop in the adored Hawkeye Season 1 on Disney+. Since then, there has been limited information about any possible continuation of the series.
After many years of speculation, Jeremy Renner, who’s been a long-time member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared insights into discussions he had about a possible second season for Disney+’s “Hawkeye” series. He disclosed that financial issues were ultimately the reason behind not producing another round of episodes, but he remains optimistic that the topic might be revisited in the future.
In a recent chat with High Performance, the actor who portrays Clint Barton revealed that they were asked to participate in Season 2. However, he chose not to take part due to being presented with only half the compensation as in Season 1.
In response to their proposal for Season 2, they’ve suggested paying me less than what I earned in the first season. Essentially, they want me to work twice as hard for half the pay. I find myself questioning their logic, thinking, “Is this because you think I’m somehow only half as good as Jeremy, or is it just because I got hit by a car?” This isn’t Marvel or Disney we’re talking about here, it’s more like the budget-conscious types, the accountants.
He expressed that upon receiving the news, he responded to the Marvel and Disney team with a phrase that essentially meant “leave me alone,” considering it a disparaging remark. Nevertheless, Renner maintains a fondness for the Hawkeye character and is open to exploring where this character may head in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Originally, I suggested they should go fly a kite instead of engaging in an argument. Unfortunately, our views didn’t align on that matter. Despite this, I remain fond of the character and the role, but had to protect myself. Importantly, I didn’t ask for any additional compensation; I merely wanted payment equal to what I received during the first season. It’s disappointing that this wasn’t granted, but I can let it go. My body is grateful that I’m not currently performing the role right now, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
The series “Hawkeye” was streamed on Disney+ between November 24 and December 22, 2021. It narrated a festive superhero tale, drawing inspiration from the popular Matt Fraction comic book series of the same name, which was released in 2012.
The series centered around Renner’s character Clint Barton/Hawkeye, an established MCU hero, as he mentored a newcomer, Kate Bishop played by Hailee Steinfeld. Together, they aimed to counteract the malevolent schemes of the Track Suit Mafia using their combined abilities.
Where Does Hawkeye Season 3 Stand?
It appears that Jeremy Renner may not be involved with the “Hawkeye” series anymore, which puts the second season of this popular Marvel Cinematic Universe show at risk.
Ever since the premiere of its highly acclaimed inaugural season in 2021, fans can’t help but wonder if there will be further installments of the show.
Characters from the series have been spotted throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Kate Bishop, Wilson Fisk, and Echo, who leveraged their roles in “Hawkeye” to launch successful careers at Marvel Studios. Unfortunately, the show has not returned for additional episodes, leaving fans in suspense about its future.
By the end of 2024, news broke out that three years later, Marvel Studios was planning to produce a second season of “Hawkeye”, however, no formal announcements regarding this project have been made by Marvel themselves.
Ever since then, there has been chatter among fans regarding possible launch timelines (reportedly set for late 2026) and a new antagonist supposedly making their debut in the second series, but no official announcement has been made public.
It’s uncertain whether Renner’s remarks about the second season refer to the current effort to produce another set of episodes, but if they do, Marvel Studios may need to think outside the box since they are set to lose one of the show’s main cast members.
