HBO’s Harry Potter Series Reveals First Look at Nick Frost as Hagrid

“Yer a wizard Harry!”

HBO has released a first look at Nick Frost as Hogwarts gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid (below).

Yesterday’s announcement found me excitedly flipping through my screen, as the production unveiled Dominic McLaughlin stepping into young Harry Potter’s shoes, along with a fresh lineup of talented actors taking on iconic roles: Rory Wilmot transforming into Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson breathing life into Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey donning the mantle of Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser assuming the enigmatic Garrick Ollivander.

Here’s Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) as the half-giant Hagrid:

The show has begun filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, U.K.

HBO intends to transform each of J.K. Rowling’s internationally acclaimed books into a separate TV series.

The project has already revealed most of the main character actors from J.K. Rowling’s initial Harry Potter book, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

In this new version, the Emmy-winning actor John Lithgow steps into the significant part of the affectionate and insightful Headmaster Albus Dumbledore at Hogwarts.

The Oscar-nominated actress, Janet McTeer from ‘Ozark’, takes on the character of the strict Transfiguration Professor Minerva McGonagall.

Paapa Essiedu will assume the part of the scornful Potion’s Master Severus Snape from “Black Mirror.” Nick Frost will portray the clumsy Hogwarts caretaker Rubeus Hagrid. The main child cast includes McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

In addition to the main characters, the cast features Katherine Parkinson playing Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt portraying Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn essaying Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley in the role of Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bel Powley taking on Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby portraying Vernon Dursley, and Bertie Carvel acting as Cornelius Fudge.

Furthermore, stage performer Luke Thallon is set to portray the enigmatic Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Quirinus Quirrell, while comedian Paul Whitehouse, known for his work on ‘Harry & Paul’, will bring life to the grumpy caretaker Argus Filch.

Francesca Gardiner serves as both showrunner and executive producer, while Mark Mylod directs several episodes and also takes on the role of executive producer. The series is overseen by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts from Brontë Film and TV, along with David Heyman from Heyday Films in the capacity of executive producers.
