As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has witnessed countless horror masterpieces, I must say that the upcoming HBO series, IT: Welcome to Derry, has piqued my interest like no other. Having grown up on Stephen King’s terrifying tales and the chilling adaptations of the IT saga, I am eagerly anticipating this prequel. The images released offer a tantalizing glimpse into the world of Derry and its haunting inhabitants, particularly the enigmatic Jovan Adepo and captivating Taylour Paige, who will undoubtedly bring their characters to life with their acting prowess.
In 2025, HBO’s “IT: Welcome to Derry” will debut on their streaming platform, and the series has recently released initial images of the new characters appearing in the long-awaited spinoff. Earlier this year, the first footage of the prequel show was leaked online, but the latest photos and plot details give a sneak peek into the intriguing horror project. The producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti, who have been instrumental in the “IT” movie series, assure that “Welcome to Derry” will offer another profound exploration of a specific historical era with a chilling supernatural touch.
Warner Bros. Discovery unveiled fresh glimpses of the upcoming series “Welcome to Derry“, showcasing Jovan Adepo and Taylour Paige as the main characters in this forthcoming drama. It appears that this prequel will delve into a multitude of characters’ stories, including a youth group reminiscent of the one portrayed in the horror film series. Contrary to retelling the events from the original novel, “Welcome to Derry” seems to present a fresh chapter in Pennywise’s history within the secluded town. Indeed, Bill Skarsgård is reprising his role as the terrifying clown/extraterrestrial entity, although he does not appear in the released images. Notably, “Welcome to Derry” takes place in the same universe as the films, but do not anticipate recognizable faces other than the antagonist this time around.
New It Prequel Welcomes You to Derry
In different timeframes, both “IT” and “IT Chapter Two” follow a group of characters from their childhood to adulthood in the town of Derry. They encounter Pennywise, a malevolent force haunting their hometown, but it’s not just about the terrifying encounters with this creature. Each character grapples with personal issues that are often separate from Pennywise. The films were set further into the future than the books, specifically during the time when the Black Spot went up in flames. “Welcome to Derry” is a prequel, taking us back to 1962, 27 years before the main movie adaptations. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Muschiettis hinted at where “Welcome to Derry” fits into the timeline and its connection to Pennywise’s origin story.
“Every 27 years, Pennywise awakens from its slumber. During this time, a new era of fears arises for both children and adults due to historical events such as the Cold War costs. Our starting point is 1962, but we occasionally move back in time…. Every 27-year cycle sees two major incidents, one at the start and another at the end. We’re using ‘The Black Spot’ as a significant event that forms the basis of numerous stories.
The ensemble cast for the series “IT: Derry Arrival” features Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsgård. Similar to the book it is adapted from and the films it follows, this new show seems to prioritize character development, using Derry and the enigma of Pennywise as a setting for their narratives. Additionally, part of the plot will delve into the clown’s origins, but, as hinted by the producers, “much like in the book, we’ll explore it with a layer of mystery and intrigue.
