He-Man is BACK! You Won’t BELIEVE Where to Watch!

Enthusiasts eager for the live-action remake of “Masters of the Universe” in 2026 can look forward to reacquainting themselves with its original 1987 version, which will be available on Amazon Prime Video as of June 1, 2025.

The movie “Masters of the Universe” was helmed by Gary Goddard and featured Dolph Lundgren portraying He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. Notable actors like and Billy Barty (known for “The Lord of the Rings”) were also part of the cast. In this movie, He-Man along with his companions ventures to Earth in an attempt to prevent Skeletor from seizing a unique key that could give him control over the entire universe, including their home planet Eternia.

In 1987, when “Masters of the Universe” hit the big screen, it was met with both poor critical reception and disappointing box office results. The film struggled to recoup its $22 million production cost, earning just $17 million globally. Critics criticized the movie for being too predictable and lacking originality it currently holds a 21% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Michael Langella’s portrayal of Skeletor was often praised as a highlight of the film.

Mattel had anticipated that the movie would increase toy sales, but the movie’s underperformance at the box office didn’t help, leading to the cancellation of the Masters of the Universe toy line in 1988. A sequel had been planned, but due to the film’s negative reception, the sets and costumes were used for another project instead, which turned out to be more profitable and well-received by audiences.

Following its release in 1987, the “Masters of the Universe” film developed a dedicated fanbase despite initial underperformance. Notably, this was Lundgren’s inaugural leading role in a feature film following his breakout performance as Ivan Drago, the intimidating Soviet boxer from “Rocky IV”. Since then, Lundgren has appeared in more than 90 films, most of which fall under the action genre, including “Creed II”, “Expend4bles”, and “Aquaman”.

Amazon MGM’s Masters of the Universe Reboot Still Moving Forward

Previously, a live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe didn’t achieve financial success. However, Amazon MGM Studios is planning to breathe new life into this franchise with its reboot set for release in 2026. The upcoming film will feature Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam / He-Man, while Jared Leto assumes the role of his adversary Skeletor, from Suicide Squad. Other stars include Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Duncan, and Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull.

As a passionate film aficionado, I’m thrilled to share that Travis Knight, the brilliant mind behind films like “Bumblebee” and “Kubo and the Two Strings,” will be directing an exciting reboot. This time, it’s Prince Adam’s tale post his crash-landing on Earth, his mother’s planet. He embarks on a daring journey back to his home, Eternia, assuming the role of He-Man and battling Skeletor’s malevolent forces to save Eternia itself. Mark your calendars for June 5, 2026, as we all prepare to witness this epic battle unfold on the big screen!
