It seems that the upcoming revival of the ’80s cartoon is subtly suggesting the appearance of some less common figures from the franchise. Fresh set photos have unveiled allusions to various lesser-known characters, even some originating from the sister series, “She-Ra: Princess of Power.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my awe upon seeing fresh glimpses into the filming location, unveiling another perspective of Castle Grayskull’s jawbridge. It seems to house an enormous map of Eternia, nestled within what appears to be a temple floor or perhaps the castle’s inner sanctum. What truly captivates me is that encircling this map are distinct representations that, even from a hazy vantage point, can be identified as characters hailing from the two Filmation cartoons.
In my perspective as a film critic, I must commend ForEternia for subtly hinting at a more expansive Eternia universe in their upcoming movie. The roster of characters, such as King Hiss, Bow, Zodak, Netossa, and Perfuma, suggests that we might be delving deeper into the cosmos than initially anticipated from the announced cast list alone.
Should Amazon’s Masters of the Universe deal extend to She-Ra, it would mark a groundbreaking moment as this could potentially be her debut in live-action. Given the past rights complications between the two shows, it will indeed be intriguing to witness how these franchises may intertwine on the big screen.
Although it’s uncertain if these hints are setting up more stories featuring He-Man, potentially introducing his twin sister as a character, at this point they simply serve as evidence that the Masters of the Universe franchise is consciously working to distance itself from the main criticism of Dolph Lundgren’s 1987 portrayal of Eternia’s hero. This portrayal was largely criticized for failing to create a live-action movie that accurately followed the animated series and original toy line it was designed to promote.
‘Masters of the Universe’ Is Going All Out to Please Fans
There’s been quite a bit of discussion surrounding the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” movie, with some valid concerns such as Jared Leto playing Skeletor and initially revealing that Nicholas Galitzine’s Adam would be an office worker in our world. However, recent set photos, along with the announced characters set to appear in the film, are striking a chord that is building excitement. Although there’s still a lot of work to be done before its 2026 release, many are optimistic and willing to give it a chance.
The journey of “Masters of the Universe” has been far from smooth, spending over a decade stuck in development limbo. It’s been passed around to various studios, cycled through multiple directors and actors, but finally, with Amazon MGM Studios at the helm, the first live-action He-Man film since Lundgren’s movie is now taking shape.
Starring as Prince Adam, aka He-Man, we have Galitzine. Joining him are Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Goat Man, James Purefoy as King Randor, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena Glenn, and MCU star Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms. It’s been whispered that Lundgren himself might make a special appearance in the film.
