Heidi Klum Showed Off Her Supermodel Roots During America's Got Talent Prank, But Simon Cowell Wasn't Having It

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of reality TV competitions, I must admit that this season of America’s Got Talent has been quite a rollercoaster ride. The prank segment featuring David Alan Grier and Howie Mandel was a fun detour from the main event, but it was Heidi Klum who truly stole the show with her supermodel strut and grace under pressure.

Season 19 of America’s Got Talent on TV schedules for 2024 is nearing its end, with just the finale results episode remaining. As per tradition during finales, there were numerous intermissions throughout the evening as contestants performed. This time, actor David Alan Grier from St. Denis Medical made a surprise visit to collaborate with Howie Mandel in pranking the other judges. The prank allowed Heidi Klum to demonstrate her supermodel background, while Simon Cowell began to run out of patience.

David Alan Grier devised a trick where he pretended to be interested in directing for America’s Got Talent (AGT), suggesting he would direct promos for local news stations as a prank. In a candid confession, Grier admitted that the aim was to irritate the judges, but the culprit behind this scheme was actually Howie Mandel. As time passed, the promos grew more and more absurd, with Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum managing to conceal their annoyance better than Simon Cowell, who showed signs of tiredness with the props much earlier on. Here’s a glimpse:

It’s important to note that Simon Cowell seemed to reach his limit with filming promotional content following last week’s AGT episode, as he was spotted wearing peculiar sunglasses. (You can catch the entire clip by streaming the episode through a Peacock Premium subscription.)

Given that America’s Got Talent is now airing its live shows, it seems likely that the recording of the promotional videos following the final episode required the four of them to spend a considerable amount of time in their chairs, surrounded by props and a noisy environment. Sofia Vergara demonstrated her knack for maintaining a straight face while delivering lines, which I suspect is a skill she honed on Modern Family. However, it was Heidi Klum’s pose-striking and the ensuing activation of the large fans for the Windy City promo that provided me with the most amusement.

Without prior knowledge that Heidi Klum had been a supermodel before becoming an America’s Got Talent judge and embarking on various other projects, the fact that she confidently struck a pose which caused Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell to be momentarily obscured by a fan would have been a clear indication of her modeling expertise.

Though Klum showing off her modeling skills while her fellow judges stumbled out of frame was my favorite part of the prank video, I had to laugh at the look on Simon Cowell’s face after the big reveal. He handled it with grace, but I’d say that he still didn’t look particularly amused. Take a look:

In my opinion, he appears to be making an effort to maintain a good sport’s demeanor while on live national television. After all, it’s not easy to unexpectedly film promotional material for a prank, and very few of us could manage to stay as calm and polished as Heidi Klum when being hit in the face by a fan.

Absolutely, this particular episode of AGT mainly focused on the acts of the remaining contestants, who are now just steps away from claiming the $1 million grand prize. It was quite an impressive night as there wasn’t a single weak performance that stood out, making it difficult for me to predict who might ultimately win.

It was exciting to watch Richard Goodall’s expression when he found out he’d be singing “Faithfully” alongside a Journey member, following his impressive audition with “Don’t Stop Believin’.” However, Dee Dee Simon demonstrated that he’s also a strong contender in the running for the title.

Among the two singers who have captured my affection this season, I’m particularly cheering for Solange Kardinaly, the swift-changing magician, and Learnmore Jonasi, the hilarious comedian. Neither a magician nor a standup comic has triumphed on AGT before, and it would make Season 19 an exciting finale if either of them were to win.

Voting for the remaining contestants on America’s Got Talent can be done through the official website up until Wednesday, September 18 at 7 a.m. Eastern Time on NBC. The finale results show will then broadcast on Tuesday, September 24.
