We aimed to create a new Hellboy film that differs from previous adaptations. To achieve this, we focused on returning to the original comic book series by Mike Mignola as our inspiration. These works are unique contributions to the horror and folk genres, and it was our intention to bring this authentic representation of Hellboy to life on screen.
Taylor made a bold statement, expressing that the on-screen portrayal of Hellboy up until now hasn’t fully captured its essence. He further mentioned that Mike Mignola himself was thrilled to witness his comic book character brought to life in live-action in an unprecedented way.
“Mike Mignola hadn’t witnessed that cinematic portrayal before, and neither had we. It was an exhilarating experience for him, as well as for us, to observe a more personal and eerie interpretation of ‘Hellboy’ in film, despite its fantastical elements like a man with short horns.”

To date, the comic book character Hellboy has been brought to life on the silver screen twice. Ron Perlman portrayed him in one adaptation, while David Harbour took over the role in the more recent reboot. Now, it’s Jack Kesy’s turn to add his unique interpretation to the character in “The Crooked Man.” Fortunately, Kesy discovered several elements he could connect with and shared his thoughts on this with Entertainment Weekly.

In this line of work, we often find ourselves stepping into roles that are already written and costumed for us. It’s not always easy or ideal, but it’s part of the job. In the 1950s, Hellboy and a new BPRD agent found themselves in a remote Appalachian village. Unbeknownst to them, this place was under the sway of witches, with a malevolent local devil, known as The Crooked Man, holding sway. This devil had an unsettling past link to Hellboy.
The movie “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” hasn’t announced its official release date yet, but it’s predicted to hit cinemas this year.
