Helldivers 2 placeholder sparks hope of imminent Xbox release

As a long-time Helldivers fan and someone who has been following its development since the first game, I can’t help but feel excited about the recent news of a potential Xbox release for Helldivers 2. The thought of being able to join my friends on another platform and continue the cooperative mayhem we’ve grown so accustomed to is truly enticing.

As a gamer, I’ve been taken aback by the unexpected turn of events in the gaming world this year. Underdog games like Palworld and Helldivers 2 have managed to outshine some highly anticipated AAA titles such as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Skull & Bones. Xbox has found success with Palworld, but PlayStation is truly dominating the scene with Helldivers 2.

Despite lingering doubts about when titans like Xbox might change allegiances, Xbox users eagerly anticipate the day when they can battle Terminids and destroy Automatons in Helldivers 2. Rumors abound of an anticipated Xbox launch for this game, fueled by the recent emergence of a cryptic placeholder.

Okay, I have a small question.

Shouldn’t I get a 404 error?

According to well-known leaker Knoebel, there seems to be a hidden page for Helldivers 2 on Xbox. In contrast, entering God of War or Ghost of Tsushima at the end of an Xbox URL tag will result in a “404 Error: Page Not Found” message. However, accessing “Helldivers 2” directs you to a genuine webpage.

Players have swiftly picked up on this hint, implying that Microsoft is likely to unveil Helldivers 2 for Xbox soon. Knoebel merely expresses curiosity, stating, “I haven’t said anything, I’m just puzzled by the lack of a 404 error,” yet the excitement surrounding this potential announcement has already gained momentum.

I was hoping that rumor about Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox wouldn’t turn out to be just wishful thinking. But fellow gaming insider billbil-kun has cast some doubt on it. You see, when I tried searching for information on this potential release using the term “Helldivers 2,” I got results related to another first-party Sony game called “Uncharted.” It’s possible that Helldivers 2 is indeed coming to Xbox, but based on this discovery, it doesn’t look like we have our first official teaser yet.

In April, we shared the news that Sony was considering bringing Helldivers 2 to Xbox. However, no progress has been made on this front so far. Meanwhile, fans have been clamoring for its release due to a decline in the number of Helldivers 2 players. According to SteamDB, the game’s player count is decreasing and is expected to drop further as we approach the launch of Black Ops 6.

Though it’s usual for a decline in player numbers when a new sensation emerges, revitalizing the Helldivers 2 community on Xbox could prove an effective marketing strategy. This could be achieved through various means such as a paid version similar to PlayStation or by utilizing Game Pass.

As a gamer who’s braved the PSN hurdles of Helldivers 2, I can’t help but notice the game is far from smooth sailing. The situation has grown so dire that some players are urging the developers to postpone the launch of the long-awaited Illuminate faction. With Helldivers 2 continuing to battle internal issues, perhaps it would be wise to hold off on expanding to another platform at this time.
