As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation at the prospect of Arrowhead Studios releasing a Player Test Environment (PTE) for Helldivers 2. Having dabbled in various PTEs for games like League of Legends, VALORANT, Counter-Strike 2, and countless others, I’ve come to appreciate the unique insights they offer into the development process.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement as Arrowhead Studios has officially confirmed the development of a multiplayer test environment for Helldivers 2! Though they haven’t given us a specific release date yet, it’s definitely worth brushing up on what this entails if you’re not already in the know.
What is a Player Test Environment?
In simpler terms, a Player or Public Test Environment (PTE) refers to a distinct version of a multiplayer game designed for players to evaluate and offer input on upcoming updates. These environments are primarily found in computer games.
While developers will test the content and balancing of their patches internally, a PTE offers a more diverse selection of players who can also test the game.
On occasion, a fresh viewpoint might prove beneficial, and a Playtest Event (PTE) could serve as an effective tool for identifying modifications that are undesirable or superfluous, preventing them from being implemented across the entire gaming community.
What do we know about the Helldivers 2 PTE?

Hey there, gaming community! As a gamer myself, I’ve got to say, things are pretty quiet over at Arrowhead Studios these days. Their CEO, Shams Jorjani, recently dropped a hint on X (used to be known as Twitter) that a Play-to-Earn model is something they’re considering. But, like us, they haven’t revealed many details about what it might look like yet. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed and stay tuned for more updates!
It’s quite frequent to find Player vs Environment (PVE) modes in popular games such as League of Legends, VALORANT, Counter-Strike 2, among others. This allows us to make reasonable assumptions about its operation.
Initially, these are usually standalone add-ons to the primary game that can be obtained for free by all owners. Naturally, they are elective to use.
Typically, just a few days prior to the release of an update, a Playtest Environment (PTE) is updated to a beta version of the forthcoming fixes or additions. This allows players to try out the modifications or new material. Additionally, many PTEs offer a specific method for users to share their feedback based on their personal experiences.
1. It seems unlikely that the PlayStation Early Access (PTE) of Helldivers 2 will function significantly differently from the standard industry version. Given the positive responses from the community regarding recent updates, it appears that this update is long overdue.
