In 2025, The Art of Living hosted the International Women’s Conference in Bengaluru, which was powerfully marked by women’s empowerment and inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu. Notable figures such as filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, actress Hema Malini, and spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar graced the event with their wisdom. Hema Malini, in particular, discussed her profound bond with dance, viewing it as a means to achieve inner tranquility and spiritual growth, while she also highlighted yoga and meditation as key influences in her life.
During the gathering, Hema Malini stated that genuine role models aren’t manufactured but arise organically as individuals live honestly and face obstacles head-on. She underscored the fact that life offers numerous chances, and it’s crucial to approach each responsibility with elegance, dedication, and enthusiasm.
Dance holds a deeper significance for her beyond just being an artistic expression. In her own words, “Dance serves as my lifeline – when I dance, I find a profound connection with my spirituality and inner self.” Moreover, she emphasized that yoga and meditation provide the foundation for her personal fortitude.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but extol the might and tenacity of women, for they truly embody strength, persistence, and vitality. With immense pride, I wield Bharatanatyam as a vessel, illuminating the profound cultural tapestry of India, transforming ancient myths into captivating performances on a global stage.
The spiritual leader, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, underlined the significant impact women have in creating a harmonious atmosphere. He stressed that their happiness not only benefits their families but can also elevate entire nations. Furthermore, he viewed women’s emotions as a valuable gift, crucial for a society that is both warm and joyful.
He proposed an idea: If more women were to assume leadership positions, worldwide conflicts could potentially lessen. Drawing inspiration from mythology, he pointed out that India has historically acknowledged the power of women, delegating significant roles to goddesses such as Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati. He further encouraged global harmony by emphasizing that in today’s world, self-care—particularly through meditation—is vital, not just a privilege.
Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari underscored the importance of individual decision-making, encouraging folks to accept the strength in saying ‘no’, and reminding them that genuine happiness stems from within. She accentuated the profound feelings that cinema can stir, referring to it as a tool capable of provoking laughter, sorrow, and affection.
Emphasizing personal responsibility, she made clear that help isn’t on the way – it’s up to each of us to steer our courses. Additionally, she recommended practicing daily thankfulness and releasing burdens from external pressures, as she felt that passion, rather than validation, should fuel our endeavors.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of The Art of Living’s International Women’s Conference, which combined fashion with philanthropy in an event titled “Stylish Insideout: Fashion for a Cause.” Top designers and models exhibited their creations, with the profits going towards providing education to over one hundred thousand underprivileged children. The event also showcased motivational speakers such as President Draupadi Murmu and Sonakshi Sinha, who delved into the theme “Just Be” through discussions, meditation, and wisdom shared by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
