Mike Flanagan is set to introduce “Carrie” to the horror-loving audience on television, and he may have found the ideal actor for the tragic protagonist. Adapted from Stephen King’s 1974 horror novel of the same name, “Carrie” tells the story of a shy adolescent girl who is persistently tormented at school. Possessing telekinetic abilities, she uses them to exact revenge on her bullies and associates. This timeless horror masterpiece manages to instill fear in even the most hardened viewers, regardless of how many times it’s been watched. It’s rumored that the actress from “Hereditary,” might embody the title character in the Amazon Prime Video series.
According to Daniel Richtman, a well-known figure online who often breaks news, discussions are underway for Shapiro to portray the renowned character Carrie White, as played by Flanagan in previous adaptations. It was previously announced last October that Mike Flanagan, a versatile talent known for his work in writing, producing, directing, and occasionally editing horror films, is collaborating with King on a potential Carrie series for Amazon Prime Video. Flanagan and Trevor Macy, who have worked together on projects like Oculus (2013) and Before I Wake (2016), will be serving as executive producers for this project.
Previously, a filmmaker has brought several Stephen King novels to life on screen, such as “Gerald’s Game” and “Doctor Sleep”. The upcoming adaptation, titled “The Life of Chuck“, is set to premiere on June 6, 2025. A sneak peek was shared with the public a few weeks back in the form of its first trailer.
Milly Shapiro Could Bring the Necessary Tragedy to ‘Carrie’
Shapiro would be an excellent choice for portraying the leading female character in a horror film, given her prior experience in the genre. She made her cinematic debut as Charlie Graham in the critically-acclaimed psychological horror film “Hereditary.” In this movie, Shapiro played the role of Annie (Toni Collette) and Steve’s (Gabriel Byrne) 13-year-old daughter. The family in the film experiences terrifying events that eventually lead to the demise of Shapiro’s character. At a party, Charlie eats cake containing walnuts, despite her allergy, which causes her to go into shock. A gruesome incident subsequently unfolds, although it’s better not to know the specific details.
Did you know that Stephen King’s first novel, “Carrie,” was published way back on April 5, 1974? Interestingly, it was transformed into a movie just two years later in 1976, catapulting both the author and the book to widespread acclaim (it sold an impressive four million copies). Though King is a trailblazer in the horror genre, Sissy Spacek’s portrayal of Carrie was instrumental in the film’s success. Her performance elicited profound empathy from the audience for Carrie, which was crucial to the story’s impact. The tragic and terrifying ending was made all the more poignant by her acting skills. Milly Shapiro, who is set to play Carrie in the TV adaptation, has the potential to evoke similar emotions, much like Spacek, Angela Bettis (2002), and Chloë Grace Moretz (2013) before her.
