Here’s what we learned from the Andor season 2 finale on Disney+

In the finale of Season 2 of the series ‘Andor’, all outstanding plot points are resolved, which eventually lead to the occurrences depicted in the 2016 film ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’. The characters experience another year, culminating in the disclosure of Palpatine’s major project and the turmoil that follows as both the Empire and the Rebellion respond.

What is this project, and who will survive? SPOILERS BELOW.

Season 2 episode 10 takeways

Previously noted, a year has gone by and Dedra’s obsession with capturing Luthen, known as Axis since season 1, only grows stronger and more intense. Luthen is informed to rendezvous with Lonni Jung, an undercover spy for the ISB who has been involved in the rebellion activities.

1) He finds himself in a precarious situation and pleads with Luthen for secure passage for him and his loved ones, offering confidential data he retrieved from Dedra’s records as a trade. It appears that the top-secret energy initiative the Empire has been developing, which includes Ghorman, is actually paving the way for the operational capabilities of the fearsome Death Star – the planet-destroying weapon.

After learning about it, Luthen takes Lonni’s life and passes on the details to Kleya. Later, he heads back to his antique store and deliberately damages the radio and communication tools that he and Kleya had been utilizing. Just as he does this, Dedra shows up.

Initially, everything seems to go smoothly for both parties, but the situation turns sour when Dedra reveals the stolen radio component Luthen had acquired at the start of the series. It quickly becomes apparent to Luthen that his only escape is to use an old weapon to take his own life while Dedra is preoccupied by smoke from the damaged communication equipment in the back room.

To ensure Luthen remains conscious for interrogation, Dedra arranges for him to be moved to a hospital. The entire floor of this hospital is sealed off and guarded by the Empire. However, unluckily for her, Luthen is barely alive due to a device he requires to stay that way.

When Dedra’s supervisor, Partagaz, becomes aware of Lonni’s demise and the predicament involving Luthen, he instructs her detainment. During this interval, Kleya, leveraging abilities she had honed over time, successfully infiltrates the hospital, impersonating a nurse. By setting off prearranged explosions, she was able to eliminate any obstacles en route to Luthen.

In this episode, Kleya detaches Luthen from the device, enabling him a tranquil demise and freedom. What set this installment apart is that while executing her scheme to eliminate Luthen, who would otherwise reveal secrets about the uprising on Yavin 4 to the Empire, she reminisces about her past with Luthen.

Originally serving an unspecified empire, Luthen decides to abandon his responsibilities and adopts a new identity, with Kleya as his companion. He discovers her concealed within his spacecraft, likely a native of an undisclosed planet and potentially the lone survivor of a mysterious event.

As they matured, the duo assumed roles of father and daughter, exchanging relics to make ends meet. Exposure to the Empire’s ruthless and unjust nature led her to chide Luthen for his inaction.

In essence, they must exercise patience and endure, an ordeal that frequently results in the tragic loss of blameless lives. The true extent of her participation unfolds when Luthen presents Kleya with a choice: to persist in her rebellious path or abandon it for a tranquil, ordinary life during their leisurely moments on Naboo.

Instead of choosing the rebellion, she actively embraces it, leading Luthen to set off an explosion that claimed the lives of Imperial soldiers stationed on a nearby bridge. This tragic event served as a harsh introduction for Kleya into the true nature and consequences of the rebellion.

Season 2 episode 11 takeways

After breaking free from the hospital, Kleya heads back to an old hideout shared by Cassian and Bix in the past. Utilizing a pulsed signal transmitter similar to Morse code, she attempts to reach Cassian on Yavin 4.

1) The communication gets to Wil, prompting him to pass on the gadget to Cassian, Melshi (a rebel), and the upgraded K-2SO. It’s revealed that the message was from Luthen, causing the group to defy orders and depart in an attempt to save him.

The investigation by ISB at Luthen’s antique store uncovers damaged communication technology. As they attempt to determine if anything can be saved, a pulse transmitter mysteriously activates, enabling them to start tracking its source.

In the meantime, Dedra gets taken into custody and interrogated by Krennic, who, thanks to Lonni, is falsely charged with collaborating with the rebellion. She firmly denies these allegations and reveals that she was compelled to act against Luthen independently because the Empire concealed crucial information that enabled her to uncover his true identity.

Krennic is concerned about who else may have information about the Death Star, yet there’s no clear response.

Cassian and Melshi go to save who they think is Luthen, while K-2SO remains in the ship when all communication channels are jammed by approaching ISB guards. Realizing this, K-2SO decides to eliminate those officers and heads towards Cassian.

about kyber crystals, a location named Jedha, and someone called Galen Erso. Later, Cassian attempts to persuade Kleya to join them when the officials arrive, with the ultimate destination being Yavin 4.

Following an explosion that leaves Kleya unconscious, Cassian and Melshi fight off the ISB until K-2SO steps in to resolve the situation. They subsequently flee, making their way back to Yavin 4. There, Cassian attempts to persuade the council, which includes Mon Mothma and Bail Organa, to investigate Luthen’s intelligence.

However, because of Luthen’s strained relationships with most people present and his suspicious demeanor, they chose to drop the matter for now. Only Mon Mothma supports Cassian’s claims, but she finds herself in a minority.

Luthen’s tense relationships with almost everyone and his uneasy behavior led them to halt the discussion. Mon Mothma is the lone supporter of Cassian, but she faces opposition.

Or,

Due to Luthen’s frosty relations with many and his paranoid actions, they opted not to delve deeper into the topic. Mon Mothma stands alone in believing Cassian, yet she finds herself outvoted.

She adopts a more active role in managing the uprising, as she frequently needs to handle Saw’s unpredictable actions.

Season 2 episode 12 takeways

In the season finale, things take on a more somber tone as we edge closer to the happenings depicted in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” Mon Mothma expresses doubts about Cassian, and asks Vel to engage him in conversation to gauge if the information at hand can be trusted or not.

Vel talks to Cassian, who greatly admires Luthen because he orchestrated everything. Vel advises Cassian to consider contacting Bix, and although Cassian appears hesitant, he agrees to ponder the idea.

However, before Bix can proceed, Bail Organa needs to give him a task first. One of Cassian’s acquaintances from Jedha belongs to Saw’s faction and has been persistently trying to reach Cassian through Yavin, asking for a meeting.

Luthen gathered information about Jedha that he obtained from Lonni, and it was this data that led Cassian to depart Yavin 4 alongside his companion K-2SO, heading towards Jedha.

By the end of the episode and season, we discover some crucial facts. Since they couldn’t apprehend Kleya, Partagaz chooses to take his own life instead of facing arrest.

Krennic stands on top of the almost-finished Death Star, while Dedra is locked up in a possible similar cell where Cassian stayed during season 1.

It appears Mon Mothma’s husband is now in a romantic relationship with his daughter’s mother-in-law. Meanwhile, we learn that Bix, who was present at the start of the season, went back to planet Mina-Rau – this is where B2EMO has been staying throughout the entire season.

In the open fields, you can see Bix cradling a newborn gently, hinting that when she departed from Yavin 4, she was carrying Cassian’s unborn child.

Andor season 2 finale review

And so concludes season 2 of Andor. In stark contrast to season 1, this time around we saw a mix of intense action sequences, swift plot development, and moments that brought the story to a grinding halt for deeper character exploration. Many instances left me pleasantly surprised, as Andor, at times, has been overlooked or underappreciated among the Star Wars Disney Plus TV series.

In a straightforward manner, the series presents a grittier, mature perspective on the initial stages of the rebellion, revealing how Palpatine effortlessly amassed total power with minimal opposition. Characters from season 1 experience growth in their development, but certain storylines such as Andor’s quest to locate his sister and B2EMO’s complete neglect are not fully resolved.

In the finale, certain characters’ motivations shifted mysteriously, leaving us clueless about the reasons behind it. However, we delved deeper into K-2SO’s backstory and gained insights about the ominous character of Krennic. The season concluded with Cassian and Bix having a child, which has sparked curiosity among fans as to whether this child is someone familiar from another Star Wars tale.

Among all the intriguing narratives, Mon Mothma’s story resonated deeply with me, weaving together the complex tapestry of her roles as a wife, mother, and political figure amidst the tumultuous rebellion. Her unwavering balancing act showcased a strength and inspiration that transcended my expectations.

In summary, I found the series highly enjoyable as it expanded the universe’s mythos, offering a close examination of the revolution’s inception and intricately detailing the day-to-day operations of both factions, making for an absorbing viewing experience.

My main concern is the structure of releasing three episodes at once as a chapter, since it can be quite overwhelming and tiring to watch them all in one go, given the amount of action and details in each episode. Admittedly, no one is forced to do this, but let’s face it, many viewers will likely want to due to their enthusiasm for the show and a desire to avoid spoilers.

In simpler terms, I found it challenging to keep track of the events in each episode because my role involves summarizing the show. The episodes seemed to be packed with a lot of content, making it hard to distinguish where one ended and another began. If there was less material presented, I believe it would have been more pleasurable to watch, but unfortunately, the current format didn’t appeal to me.

In simpler terms, are we saying goodbye to Cassian Andor here, or will Disney Plus continue telling stories about his child?
