As a seasoned watch enthusiast with a penchant for unique and avant-garde designs, I must say that this year’s Hublot releases have truly left me spellbound. Each collaboration brings a fresh perspective to the world of horology, reflecting the artists’ individual creative journeys.
For about ten years, Hublot has embraced innovation in watchmaking by partnering with modern artists and creative minds. Using unique methods not typically associated with horology, these collaborators bring fresh design ideas to the table, resulting in joint creations that boldly step out of traditional boundaries.
This year, the brand will venture further into the artistic world by introducing several new creations. Joining Hublot as a contemporary artist and brand ambassador is Daniel Arsham, expanding the brand’s existing roster of artists. In addition, a few fresh artistic minds have been brought on board to create unique timepieces exclusively for Hublot. Previous ambassadors like Takashi Murakami, Richard Orlinski, and Maxime Plescia-Buchi of Sang Bleu have also launched the most recent installments in their ongoing collaborations, as they continue to explore new aesthetic possibilities within horology.
Exploring the special nature of each piece, TopMob delves into the creative partnerships behind these items, examining the distinctive materials and workings that give their designs their unique charm.
Arsham Droplet Pocket Watch
As a devoted admirer, I’d say that the three-faceted Arsham Droplet, crafted by Hublot, stands out as one of the most unorthodox timepieces ever produced. It serves not only as a pocket watch and pendant but also as a table clock, making it an exceptional blend of tradition and avant-garde design. The visionary Daniel Arsham’s signature “Future Relics” concept is beautifully represented here, as the classic pocket watch is transformed into a mesmerizing work of art from another world.
The design, as you might guess from its name, draws inspiration from natural fluid shapes, which is evident in its curved edges, mineral glass base, circular chain links, and tear-drop crystal structures. This idea is carried through to the structure itself, with an open-work titanium case showcasing the intricate internal mechanics. The watch also boasts new advancements, such as a 30-meter water resistance and a 10-day power reserve.
Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu Sapphire
The Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu Sapphire is the third collaboration between Sang Bleu and Hublot, featuring brand ambassador Maxime Plescia-Buchi. Unveiled at this year’s Watches and Wonders, this new creation builds upon the previous designs, polishing the sharp lines of the 2016 and 2023 watches while incorporating the transparency of sapphire. Plescia-Buchi utilizes sapphire in the bezel, dial, and one-piece wraparound case, highlighting its ethereal, forward-thinking, and almost architectural characteristics.
From a devoted admirer’s perspective, this watch boasts some captivating technical aspects. The HUB4700 skeletonized automatic chronograph and a robust 50-hour power reserve are amongst the highlights, not to mention the uniquely designed Sang Bleu oscillating weight. All these components are meticulously housed within the original 43mm barrel-shaped dial, crafted using an innovative 3D machining process.
Classic Fusion Tourbillon Orlinski Colored Ceramic
Artist Richard Orlinski, one of our beloved brand ambassadors, is back this year for another collaboration. Known for his iconic Hublot ceramic Classic Fusion pieces in the watch industry, he’s unveiling the model once more in two vibrant new color schemes: “Yellow” and “Light Blue.
For those who aren’t familiar, this watch features a ceramic face paired with a rubber strap, giving it an unusual yet contemporary style on your wrist. The rhodium-plated, silver-brushed bridges and sapphire crystal face serve as the bond between these two materials. With the debut of new color options, Orlinski expresses that he’s still in the process of creating more, aiming to keep his “Born Wild” essence alive through Hublot’s cutting-edge technology and materials.
MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Sapphire Rainbow
Despite multiple collaborations between Takashi Murakami and Hublot, it was only the recent launch of the MP-15 model that significantly caught the eye of watch enthusiasts. This uniquely designed timepiece stands out due to Murakami’s floral emblem encompassing a central tourbillon, offering a contemporary and lavish interpretation of his kawaii style.
After the release of the Sapphire Edition, the brand introduces a new version adorned with jewels, inspired by the design from the Only Watch auction item. Instead of a rainbow gradient emanating from the center, 444 gemstones are strategically placed on each petal according to color. The distinctive smiley face symbol is also incorporated, meticulously laser-engraved on the curved sapphire crystal.
I can grab the latest Hublot releases either by shopping online from their official website or swing by their stores nestled in the heart of Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, or Galleria Mall Abu Dhabi. It’s all about finding my next gaming buddy!
