Following an extremely successful debut, we’re excited to announce that High Potential is back for its second season! In the upcoming episodes, a character who was previously overshadowed will finally take center stage. The ABC crime drama series, produced by Drew Goddard, centers around Kaitlin Olson’s character, Morgan Gillory, an intellectually gifted individual (as suggested by the show’s title). Last season primarily focused on Morgan and her journey. However, for season 2, it’s time to shine a light on some of the other characters as well.
In the final episode of “High Potential” Season 1, there were a couple of surprising twists – it turns out that Morgan’s husband, Roman, is still alive, and a serial abductor has set his sights on Olson’s character. Earlier, the mysterious man (portrayed by David Giuntoli) had targeted Oz before focusing on Morgan. He kidnapped Oz, and the LAPD investigator nearly drowned at the bottom of a pool, but Karadec, Daphne, and Morgan managed to rescue him. Although “High Potential” Season 2 may tackle other important issues, the next episode will undoubtedly keep Oz’s abduction in focus, especially for Daphne.
Oz’s Abduction Sets Up Daphne For A Bigger Role In High Potential Season 2
Daphne Wants Vengeance
Initially, characters Daphne and Oz didn’t have extensive roles in the first season of High Potential, even though they were part of the main cast. However, it seems that both characters will be given more plot development in season 2, as per Javicia Leslie and Deniz Akdeniz, who portray Daphne and Oz respectively. In a recent interview with TV Insider at the Disney Upfronts on May 13, these actors hinted at what fans can expect in season 2, with Akdeniz suggesting that there will be more exciting stories for their characters.
There seems to be an individual, either a dangerous criminal or a player of some kind, who is currently at large and needs to be apprehended urgently. The initial episodes of the season will likely delve into this matter. It’s exciting to think about bringing this person to justice, given they once tried to drown me, an act I didn’t take lightly.
Leslie added:
I am determined to take action against those responsible. My companion is important to me, and I stand by his side through thick and thin. Anyone who harms him will face my anger.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, it’s quite understandable that I would be upset if my partner, Oz, was kidnapped before the start of High Potential‘s second season. Naturally, Oz feels the same way, too. But as Leslie hinted, my character is set to take center stage in this new season, relentlessly pursuing the culprit who attempted to end Oz’s life (and came close) and seeking justice for my friend. With this villain being a major antagonist on the show, it seems that my role in High Potential season 2 is bound to be more substantial, which is fantastic news given how little screentime I had in season 1.
Why High Potential Season 2 Needs To Expand Its Storytelling Beyond Morgan
High Potential Has A Great Cast
Despite finding it disappointing that Daphne and Oz were often sidelined in the first season due to limited screen time, it was somewhat understandable given the show’s tight 13-episode run. As Morgan is the primary character, the series needed to focus on her storyline. However, with the introduction of more episodes in season 2 (expanding to 18), it’s essential that attention be paid to characters beyond Morgan, leveraging the talent of actors like Leslie and Akdeniz who enrich the show’s cast.
High Potential Cast | Role |
---|---|
Kaitlin Olson | Morgan Gillory |
Daniel Sunjata | Adam Karadec |
Javicia Leslie | Daphne Forrester |
Deniz Akdeniz | Lev “Oz” Ozdil |
Amirah J | Ava Sinquerra |
Matthew Lamb | Elliot Radovic |
Judy Reyes | Selena Soto |
Taran Killam | Ludo Radovic |
It seems we have only scratched the surface of Daphne’s character, and viewers got a peek into Oz’s past during the finale of season 1 of High Potential. As we move forward into season 2, it is crucial for the series to delve deeper into Daphne’s personality. The upcoming episodes should also provide more insights into Oz, Soto, and even Karadec. By revealing more about the characters, the audience can develop stronger feelings towards them (either love or hate), which is essential for a TV show’s success. Well-written, intricate characters are what make shows thrive. Here’s hoping that the writers of High Potential will remember this when plotting out season 2.
