H&M Is Bringing Back Its Best Designer Collabs from the Past 20 Years: Here’s When and What to Buy Online

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for fashion and a keen eye for design, I can’t help but marvel at H&M’s Guest Designer Re-released collections. With 20 years of collaborations under its belt, this Sweden-based retail giant has not only revolutionized fast-fashion but also brought the world of luxury fashion to the masses.

Following the addition of renowned designers like Simone Rocha and Isabel Marant to its roster, H&M’s guest designer program revolutionized high-end fashion with its inaugural collaboration – with the creative head of Chanel – back in 2004.

To mark its 20th anniversary of collaborations, the fast-fashion retailer based in Sweden is bringing back selected items from past designer collections for a second chance at HM.com, available online starting October 31. Previously, certain pieces were made accessible to customers at H&M’s physical stores across Europe and New York from October 24 to 30.

As a gamer, I’ve got my hands on an exclusive collection of iconic gaming-themed outfits from various designers throughout the years. These include designs from Karl Lagerfeld (2004), Stella McCartney (2005), Viktor & Rolf (2006), Roberto Cavalli (2007), Comme des Garçons by Rei Kawakubo (2008), Matthew Williamson (spring 2009), Jimmy Choo (fall 2009), Sonia Rykiel (spring 2010), Lanvin (fall 2010), Versace (2011), Marni (spring 2012), Maison Martin Margiela (fall 2012), Isabel Marant (2013), Alexander Wang (2014), Balmain (2015), Kenzo (2016), Erdem (2017), Moschino (2018), Giambattista Valli (2019), Simone Rocha (2021), Mugler (spring 2023) and Rabanne (fall 2023). Each outfit represents a unique level in my gaming world, offering a glimpse into the creative minds behind these iconic fashion houses.

H&M hasn’t disclosed the prices for the re-released items yet, but they are expected to fall within the original price range, which was roughly between $20 and $300. One of the most expensive pieces from past collaborations was a bead-embroidered mini dress by Balmain, priced at $649, though it’s unclear if this specific design will be included in the vintage collection. (Keep an eye out for further updates.)

As a dedicated fashion enthusiast, I’m excited to share my insights on the upcoming re-release, which I had the privilege of styling for a captivating campaign. The collection promises a tantalizing glimpse into an array of exquisite pieces, such as decadent tulle dresses from Lanvin and Valli, Rabanne’s shimmering “disco-rama” gowns, a sleek black blazer and knit dress from Balmain, a stylish faux fur coat and floral dress by Erdem, a vibrant Glinda-pink A-line dress and chunky white sweater by Rocha, Margiela outerwear, an LBD and boots from Versace, eye-catching zebra print Jimmy Choo heels, a trendy neoprene sweater from Wang, and more.

As a passionate admirer, I’d say it’s our mission to open the door to global fashion for all, while highlighting our deep bond with powerful, thoughtful, and innovative design. This aligns perfectly with H&M’s core values: ensuring that superior quality and creative expression are accessible for everyone, according to Ann-Sofie Johansson in a statement.

Previously, our collections have been celebrated with glamorous events attended by celebrities such as Kendall Jenner (who unveiled her Giambattista Valli collaboration at Cannes), Sarah Jessica Parker, Selma Blair, Chloë Sevigny, Audrey Tatou, January Jones and many others.

Have a look at additional pictures from the recently re-launched H&M designer collaboration campaign, which will be available for purchase beginning October 31st on H&M’s online pre-owned collection.
