Hold Up, Is Star Wars Eclipse Back on Track?

Back in 2021, I, along with countless other Star Wars enthusiasts, eagerly anticipated the unveiling of Star Wars Eclipse, hoping it would be the follow-up to Jedi: Fallen Order in the realm of narrative-driven Star Wars games. However, after three years without any news, it seemed as though the game, like so many others before it, had met an unfortunate fate.

For Star Wars enthusiasts, it seems almost routine when Star Wars projects are cancelled, but it appears that Eclipse might be preparing to make a significant announcement in the near future.

Hello There

Right after the Star Wars Celebration weekend, the socials for Eclipse posted this message:

Right off the bat, a flurry of fellow gamers inquired about the implications of the recent update. Although it didn’t explicitly confirm the game’s progression, the piece did hint at something intriguing as well.

Other details regarding the game remain unclear, yet excitement among the fanbase is definitely picking up thanks to the lively social media activity.

What Do We Know about SW Eclipse So Far?

Initially, when the game was unveiled, it provided some insights such as its time period setting and the type of gameplay involved. Let me share the dramatic introduction with you:

[Here’s the cinematic reveal]

The description read:

The latest adventure set in the High Republic period is being developed early on by Quantic Dream, and it’s called Star Wars Eclipse.

During the era known as the High Republic, Star Wars Eclipse™ is a complex, multi-faceted action-adventure game. It offers various experiences and allows you to influence the fates of numerous playable characters, developed jointly by Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm Games.

In essence, the developers at Quantic Dream have earned recognition primarily for their story-driven video games, with notable successes such as Detroit: Become Human and Beyond: Two Souls among them.

Despite the lack of real gameplay footage during the cinematic unveiling, viewers anticipated a presentation similar to Become Human, implying that instead of a conventional action game, it would be more like a film in which players have control over key decision-making moments.

Why Was Star Wars Eclipse Delayed?

It’s unclear what caused the delay with Eclipse, but given that it’s a Star Wars production, there might have been a conflict with previously planned storylines. Keep in mind that, much like The Acolyte (which was terminated), Eclipse is set during the High Republic era as well.

Was it likely that The Acolyte event occurred, compelling the developers to alter the narrative for Eclipse, leading ultimately to a delay in its release?

In the absence of “Acolyte,” it seems possible that the opportunity may have arisen for “Eclipse” to flourish, potentially leading to its resurgence. However, this is merely my conjecture. Admittedly, I yearn for two live-action productions set in the High Republic era, as we’ve primarily had books and comics to satisfy most of our coverage thus far.

No release date has been announced for Star Wars Eclipse.
