Honda Brings Back the Iconic Prelude as a Hybrid-Electric Sports Coupe

As a gamer with over two decades of driving experience under my belt, I can say that the news of Honda reviving the iconic Prelude has sent a surge of excitement coursing through me. Having owned and driven several Hondas throughout my life, I’ve come to appreciate their unique blend of performance and practicality. The Prelude, with its sporty heritage, is no exception.

Honda is bringing back the iconic Prelude as a sixth-generation model, symbolizing an important step in their electrification plan. This new car combines Honda’s traditional sporty spirit with advanced technology.

At the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, the idea for the Prelude was first introduced. This vehicle will come equipped with Honda’s dual-motor hybrid powertrain and will introduce the innovative S+ Shift drive mode, promising a thrilling driving experience. Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda Auto Sales, stated, “The revival of the Honda Prelude as a hybrid-electric sports model underscores our ongoing dedication to providing a diverse range of exciting products tailored to satisfy our customers’ needs.

The Prelude occupies a significant position in Honda’s past, debuting in November 1978 as one of its initial three passenger car models, along with the Civic and Accord. Renowned for its sleek, sporty aesthetics and performance, this model was also instrumental in introducing innovations such as four-wheel steering (4WS) and the Active Torque Transfer System (ATTS), which optimizes torque distribution.

Significantly, it’s planned that the brand-new sporty hybrid-electric coupe will hit American markets towards the end of 2025. At this point, specifics about the cost are still undisclosed.
