Honda Removes One of The Type R’s Most Iconic Elements

Honda has brought a fresh spin to its Civic Type R series by debuting the “Racing Black Package” at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025. This update involves replacing the traditional red seats with stylish black ones, upholstered in Lux/ultra suede.

Since its debut, the Civic Type R has been known for its red seats, reflecting Honda’s racing heritage. But the Racing Black Package breaks with convention, aiming for a more subtle yet elegant appearance. The interior now boasts black ultrasuede upholstery across the dashboard and door trimmings, while silver and black pinstripes subtly adorn the air conditioning controls and power window switches.

The black interior isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s functional too, as it reduces interior light reflection, resulting in a more concentrated driving space. Features like wireless charging, an automatic dimming rearview mirror, and distinctive color accents throughout the cabin add to its practicality and visual appeal.

In the Japanese market, the optional Racing Black Package for the Civic Type R by Honda is scheduled to launch on January 23, with a price tag of approximately 40,000 USD or 5,998,300 JPY. Check out the new Racing Black Package Civic Type R in the video by Honda below.
