In just about half a day since its release, Morgan Wallen’s “I’m The Problem” has become the most-streamed country album of 2025 on Spotify, as verified by them on Friday.
So far, Spotify hasn’t revealed its streaming figures on the day of release, but they did share an impressive statistic about it on their social media platforms.
Industry insiders had high anticipation for Morgan Wallen’s fourth album, believing it could be one of the top albums of the year due to his status as country music’s most popular streaming artist. As of last Friday, Wallen’s 2023 album “One Thing at a Time” is still holding strong at number four on Billboard’s 200 Albums chart and has been there for 114 weeks. In comparison, his 2021 album “Dangerous: The Double Album” remains at number nine on the chart and has been there for an impressive 226 weeks.
As a gamer, here’s my take:
Just like the anticipation before a big game launch, I’ve been eagerly waiting for Wallen’s massive 37-track album dropping this Friday. Before the grand release, he already dropped a few tunes, one of them being “I Ain’t Coming Back,” which is his second collaboration with Post Malone after their platinum hit “I Had Some Help” last year. This album also boasts appearances from Eric Church and my labelmate Hardy. The track that has everyone talking on release day is “What I Want,” featuring the pop sensation Tate McRae. It’s like being on the edge of my seat, waiting to see how this game unfolds!
A portion of McRae’s supporters have expressed their dissent towards working with Wallen, whose reputation has been tarnished following a 2021 incident where he was caught uttering a racial slur on camera. Since then, he’s been embroiled in controversy, such as quitting mid-performance on Saturday Night Live earlier this year and posting an enigmatic message on Instagram that hinted at “Get me to God’s country.
Wallen mentioned that he was about to leave for home, as he had been there for a whole week, during his conversation with Caleb Pressley on Sundae Conversations this week.
Despite the ongoing controversy, he has remarkably risen to become one of the most prominent figures across all genres within the industry. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s April report, Big Loud secured a substantial $200 million deal by selling a portion of Wallen’s master recording catalog to Chord Music Partners.
It seems highly probable that “I’m The Problem” will take the lead on Billboard’s album charts next week. However, the real curiosity lies in predicting just how many copies it will manage to sell during its first week.
